SC bored me to hell. MGS is just phenominal. Watching or Playing ;)
Splinter Cell by a long shot. When I played the first one all I could think was, "this is how Solid should have been." Nothing beats sulking in the shadows, scoping out the situation and then masterfully slitting a room full of throats without ever being spotted. Plus, shooting out lights... brilliant.
I vote Ps3! This is what the thread is really about right? MGS ftw!
I like the Metal Gear Solid series more, although I'm currently playing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and so far it's great.

o wow really? mgs... wins in story, grafics, fun, characters are better. but mainly its better for this reason. You dont have to be stealthy, but when you do you are massivly rewarded. in splinter cell u HAVE to be stealthy...
Splinter cell 1,2,3 are good games, but for me MGS 1,2,3,4 are masterpieces.
Welcome to VGChartz, Ulysses! The consonant to vowel ratio in your username is quite impressive. Quite impressive, indeed.

Of course, they are pretty different games, so it's difficult to directly compare the two. Probably the biggest gripe I have about Splinter Cell is that it feels a lot more linear with fewer options to me. It has more of a puzzle feel while MGS definitely has more of an action game feel. And to those who say MGS doesn't offer any stealth elements, try playing on the hardest difficulty. I believe prior to MGS4, it results in an instant game over if you get spotted. And in MGS4, try getting the Big Boss emblem. 0 kills, 0 alerts, 0 healing items, 0 special items, unable to buy non-lethal ammunition from Drebin, and you have to beat the game in under 5 hours on Big Boss Extreme difficulty. @rocketpig: I think it's weird that you claim to be a big shooter fan, so you like Splinter Cell, then talk about how you hate MGS4 for having large sections that you played as a shooter, while you like Splinter Cell because it forces you to be more stealthy because of limited ammo. |
It's not really that shocking because it forces me to play a different style of shooter but it still forces me to play. On top of that, I adore the old style of shooter (descended from System Shock and whatnot) where ammunition is the most valuable commodity you have, not something you replenish continually. MGS4 ruined that. I ran through several missions without the slightest worry and then suffered through 30 minutes of cutscenes.
I loved MGS4. The parts I was able to play, that is. The beginning of the first mission and the third mission were pure gold in my eyes. Those were the parts of the game where I wasn't able to run through and cap everyone without worry. Unfortunately, MGS4 only provided me with about 2 hours of stealth gameplay. The cutscenes irritated me to no end but I won't discard that final boss fight (probably the best in all of gaming, IMO, despite its ridiculous controls) and Kojima's excess (sorry but Raiden is a shit character, end of story).

It's hard for me to decide as a series atm because I didn't like MGS2 or 4 as much(I really really don't like Raiden, he was a pansy in 2 and he turned to high heels in 4 and I was literally cheering when I thought he might have died but then was crushed by disappointment later) but I love 1 and 3 while the SC series is more stable with the game play part, can't decide until I see the SC that's supposedly coming out next.
