If Kojima had made a better effort in writing the story, then MGS maybe could've made a better impression.

What!! Were you playing the same game as me, I loved every minute of mgs4 if that is the game you are refering to. How can anyone compare the splinter cell series to mgs. Splinter cell is average at best, the sales and reviews show it. The Metal geas series averages over 95+ on metacritic, it's not even up for discussion. Bizarre boss fights how could you say this, as reviews have noted. The boss fights in mgs are praised as the finest moments in gaming. Splinter cell chaos theory was class but double agent was a huge step back. I challenge you to a discussion Rocketpig |
You're assuming I think bizarre=bad. The boss fights in MGS are incredible. I was listing my favorite bits of the series, not detracting from it.
PS. When I'm heaping praise on SC, just assume that I'm talking about 1 & 3. And maybe include about 1/3 of Double Agent if you want.

Cliched MGS insult #1. Congrats. |
Way to cherry pick one line that was backed up by two more paragraphs talking about why I liked each series.
You MGS fans are a little oversensitive at times. I like the games but there are things I like better about SC.

MGS1 was as much about the gameplay as it was about the "cinematic experience". Not becaue the gameplay was so great (and it was in 1998), but because of the whole novelty of stealth.
Every other MGS was much more about the cinematic thing, cuz stealth had already been done to death by other games.
Anyway... I like MGS better, cuz the characters were great and I really enjoy Kojima's over the top storytelling. Fuck, I don't even remember the name of the guy in Splinter Cell.

just the words of a 360 fanboy, MGS schools Splinter Cell.
btw, for those to whom it isnt obvious, MGS started the stealth action genre splinter cell just hopped on board
I think that gameplay wise, splinter cell is superior to metal gear, which has always seemed to have somewhat "dated" gameplay to me.
From a storytelling standpoint though, I'd say metal gear wins hands down.
It should be noted though that I haven't played anything after Chaos Theory.

I can't really make a comparison, so I just want to say that the first Splinter Cell was a great game.

Chaos Theory was a masterpiece, Double Agent was a nightmare =(
Why did they have to go for some Hollywood type of story, and make Sam younger? Before MGS4, Sam was the old soldier who was on his last legs. Chaos Theory had an awesome story, with 2 antagonists who were once heroes of their times, but betrayed their own nations for passionate, but misguided reasons.

As a series, it's too tough to call because the first MG came out 15 years before the first SC. But MGS 4 is better than any SC game. With bullets to spare.
