I lose respect for anyone opting for Splinter Cell.

It shouldn't even be up for discussion; reviews, sales and impact on gaming have spoken.

Well, good for you. Some of us actually prefer to play a game, not watch it. SC is a damned fine game and there are many reasons to prefer it over MGS, depending on your favorite types of games.

I'm a pretty big shooter guy so SC is more my cup of tea. MGS4 basically ripped the control scheme directly from the original SC. Plus, I just like sneaking around and shooting things in the back of the head. SC is better at that. MGS4 became a run-n-gun game for me during large sections... That's not what I want in a stealth game. SC has always done a good job of preventing that type of play through alarms, obnoxious enemies, and lack of ammunition.

Still, they're both good games. MGS has plenty of upside as well but it's more in the non-traditional sense of gaming (weird postmodern moments, breaking the fourth wall, truly bizarre boss fights, etc).

What!! Were you playing the same game as me, I loved every minute of mgs4 if that is the game you are refering to. How can anyone compare the splinter cell series to mgs. Splinter cell is average at best, the sales and reviews show it. The Metal geas series averages over 95+ on metacritic, it's not even up for discussion.

Bizarre boss fights how could you say this, as reviews have noted. The boss fights in mgs are praised as the finest moments in gaming.

Splinter cell chaos theory was class but double agent was a huge step back.

I challenge you to a discussion Rocketpig

You're assuming I think bizarre=bad. The boss fights in MGS are incredible. I was listing my favorite bits of the series, not detracting from it.

PS. When I'm heaping praise on SC, just assume that I'm talking about 1 & 3. And maybe include about 1/3 of Double Agent if you want.
