Forums - Nintendo - Wii games can flop - But don't blow it out of proportion...

Half of it's just the issue of judging a game's success by its first-week sales, really, somewhat separate from those who have an axe to grind against the Wii. Some writers harp about "House of the Dead's disappointing sales," and ignore the long term realities of House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return

Its too early to call Madworld a flop or otherwise. Also if Capcom said they were disapointed in Z+W, it could be it didn't make money. I remember that guy from Capcom laughing at our numbers for the game, yes I know he doesn't like the Wii but it still doesn't prove he was making stuff up.

afaik there were some contradictory statements made by Capcom resentatives concerning Z&W sales, profit etc.

OT: Deadly Creatures is the only obvious flop here, it was a flop even before the release date. No system will sell this kind of games, just beacuse of the fact it's hardly appeal to anybody.

Its hard to say, but not making money would be a minor flop considering the risks taken to make games. (This applies to every game)

Dear Mr. Fancypants

Many if not most of the statements regarding the sales of Zack & Wiki have been made by one Mr. Christian Svensson (aka Sven).

He has been shown to be (a) less than well-informed and (b) biased against the Wii in his remarks.  There have been more than one instance where a statement made by "Sven" has been shown to be inaccurate based upon either (a) Sven's previous statemments, (b) the statements of others, or facts and figures released by Capcom itself.

Therefore, anything that he says must be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.

Which is more hardcore? Metroid or CoD? Fatal Frame or Resident Evil? Fire Emblem or Gears of War? No More Heroes or GTA? Super Smash Bros. or Street Fighter? Halo Wars or C&C?

Tell me what you think.. I'd like to know which games actually sell more.. Do Wii games sell worse because they're casual?

A lot of people on this site have become very vocal as of late against the people who defend low sales of Wii games, saying that the game can't have cost very much to develop and therefore didn't flop. This is a thread to look at both sides of this argument. First off, it's a fact, stated by many game developers, that it's a lot cheaper to develop Wii games than it is to develop HD games. Add to this fact, that despite the cost differences to begin with, HD games are usually much bigger projects (pure example, Soul Calibur IV vs Soul Calibur Legends). Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Wii games can't flop. That's not what this thread is about. So let me adress some of the games people usually bring up when they talk about Wii flops.

Deadly Creatures - Can you say floptastic? This game can not have made a profit with the abysmal sales figures it's showing. Sad to say, because I've heard from most that it's a pretty good game.

The ironic thing is that Deadly Creatures is very tough to find now and still is selling at full price (as far as I can tell). And it is not included in the Gamestop Game Day sale. Meanwhile, the the other game that was released around the same time and to which it is compared -- Mushroom Men -- was.

Another possible flop is Dead Rising for the Wii. Capcom expected 500k in sales, it's at 100k now so it's not very likely to reach that.

It's showing some legs in Japan though (selling 3k+ for many weeks now).

It's only Sony fanboys that decide whether a game flops for Nintendo, didn't you hear?

Plus the publishers of NMH are even making a sequel which they promised if they consider the game a success.  These idiotic Sony fanboys (or just "snobcore" gamers, to be more politically correct and fair) just can't stand it when a game does well on the Wii according to the publishers. ;)

Although some think it deserves it because they are convinced the game was a cheap cash-in, when it's actually the most expensive kind of port, and they think it should look like RE4, when the 360 version wasn't that more detailed than RE4 (it's like comparing GTAIV to Gears; one is meant to showcase scale, and the other is to showcase graphics; there is no way the scale games can look as good as the graphics games).

But Capcom does need to market it more. That's one thing Ubisoft remembered. Even their casual games are marketed.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

psst , every Wii game is profitable, there are no flops, never - Wii games with low sales were always supposed to have low sales and in 100% the cases sold better than the devs/publishers expected (if you want to enjoy life on vgchartz you have to accept this)
