Forums - Microsoft - xbox 720,some possibillities iv found

@Linkzmax

You can't compare a computer with an xbox...

As computers become more advanced programs that are only possible on that computer become available..

And people don't upgrade simply because the games.. look better...

They upgrade because of the games... once a new system comes out all the 1st 2nd and 3rd parties switch to that system..

An xbox does nothing more then play games... an xbox 720 that shares its entire library with a system that's less then half the price would kill it..

Predictions.

1. Wii will never reach 50% market share.

2. Kz2 will sell 1.3 first week 3.5 LT.
Sales predictions for 09.

Wii - 69 - 72
PS3 - 32 - 34
X360 - 39 - 41

Forward compatibility? Didn't you just explain backwards compatibility?

Because I'm sure the 360 upscales Xbox 1 games to make them look "better" on the system. Forward compatability would mean the Xbox 4 games would be playable on the Xbox 3.

Also, don't your other comments contradict themselves.

What use is blu-ray if everything will be on the HDD. You could just use 10 DVD's and install it. AND what's the use of Blu-ray on a system that allows game downloads over the internet?

About Blu-ray: I agree with you, depending on how much penetration Blu-ray has before the next big media arrives. I mean, aside from increased storage, Blu-ray doesn't offer much else better than the standard dvd. If the next format reads faster and is bigger than the standard DVD, chances are blu-ray will not even have a reign as the premier media format.

How about playing current gen games a completely new way, aka forward compatibility. It would be pretty fun to play Gears 3 with both a normal controller and then maybe a Wii-type controller just because its one game I would love to see played with the Wii-mote.

Or you could have GTA IV xxx city with 2-4 player online/offline co-op. Wouldn't that be pretty cool?

Tease.

people are not understanding me all those are are just ideas and rumors not all those things in one box theres no way and forward compatibillity is just how the site called it thinking it over it is backward compatibillity and no X720 games would not play on 360 just games would look and play better on 720 untill developers get better games to the market

The Xbox 720 will hopefully release in Nov 2011 and be 16 times more powerful than the X360 and PS3.

Now that's Real.

Forward compatibilty would be best explained like this:

Buying Twilight Princess on Wii and having the option of putting the disk in the GameCube and playing it with the Cube controller with the world flipped..

Or perhaps playing Halo 4 (Which I'm assuming will be a XBOX 720 launch title) on 360 and having the graphics drop and having to play it with the old 360 controller with limited game modes etc.. If people wanted to play Halo 4 they could buy it and not buy the new 720 but then they'd be missing out on game modes and the awesome new control scheme that everyone's talking about so they'd go ahead and upgrade as soon as they could.

It'd be like building up 720 libraries of the 360 owners so that when they're looking at buying their next console they feel like 720 is the best option because they already have some games for it. There are MANY downsides of course but it would make third parties less scared of releasing new titles on the 720 and after a couple of years Microsoft could faze out the forward compatibility so that people would wanna jump to the 720.

It could work really well if they do it right..

Your idea of FORWARD COMPATIBILITY is already implemented though, isn't it? U r able to run PS2 games in a higher resolution on the PS3, arent u?.

As has been explained a couple of times already, that's an example of backwards compatibility. Forward compatibility would be playing the PS3 games on PS2.

@Angel_Dwk
Consoles are computers, just focused on certain functions. And I certainly can make the comparison between a computer upgrade and different generation consoles because the end result is exactly the same.

Yes, over time programs are written that can only be run on newer hardware. But oftentimes similar effects can be generated on older hardware. People can enjoy the games on their older hardware, and when they feel like it they'll upgrade for better graphics and eventually games that can only be played on the newer hardware.

I realize the developers eventually leave the last-gen and move to the current-gen, but ask yourself why the current-gen exists? For the most part every generation has merely been a leap in graphics.

If you could play every single PS3 game on PS2 or every 360 game on the xbox would you be happy with those PS2/Xbox graphics, or would you eventually upgrade anyway?

As long as FC wasn't forced onto the developers(meaning the console itself did all the work of "downconverting" the game), it's be a great bonus for them as well. They'd have both consoles' active install base as perspective buyers of new games. With FC it wouldn't require millions of people to upgrade to the new console to have good sales of a new game. It'd make sense for the console makers too as long as they don't follow a loss-leading strategy. They'll enjoy the royalties on all those sales regardless of the install base on their new system. And eventually people will want the new system for the upgraded grpahics and whatever other features are added.

@puffy
Also a great explanation. Really everyone would win. It would just depend on how it's implemented.

He's just brain storming... and his idea isn't BC like the 360 does it with AA and upscaling and all that jive he means the game was build with the idea that it would run natively on the next system and enjoy the use of that system's ability without emulation.  Because hardware emulation(like the old PS3s had the PS2 chipset on it) only gives you the game as it is... where as software emulation can do all kinds of nifty things.  As least that's how I see it.

I wish next-gen consoles went retro and used cartridges. Unfortunately while solid memory is going down in price hardcore, it isn't going down fast enough for this to be economically feasible.

Can you imagine it guys?

- No more loading screens
- No more hard disc installs
- No more disc drive reliability issues
- No more disc scratches
