Forums - Gaming - Why do people love to hate Final Fantasy ?

Well, in sports, the greatest players are often the people booed the most. It's usually a compliment to be booed, it means you're doing something right. Same here. It's the most famous RPG in the world minus pokemon, so it gets booed.

It's the most popular series in the genre, so it gets a lot of hate. Happens with EVERY genre---FPS, fighting, action, you name it. If you went by internet hate, you'd think Halo 3 was a flop.

I noticed the TC hasn't responded yet lol.

And I hate to be the one to tell you this, but this happens with many franchises.
Mario, Zelda, SSB, Halo, LBP, GTA, all the same, definitely NOT JUST FF.

Some reasons are the fanboys of those certain series (whether it be FF or some other series like the ones I just named) tend to speak out a lot and make it sound like the best thing ever since sliced bread.

And of course as some have already said, it's "cool" to hate something that's popular. I remember when SMG got all it's spectacular ratings, all the loudmouth idiots popped up like mushrooms and just continually bashed it (yet most of the didn't even play it just due to their blind hate). Same with GTA IV (although I will admit I was apart of that, and although I thought it was good, I didn't think that the scores most review sites gave it were justified).

I don't hate FF, and my favourite is either III or X, but one of the reasons why I get provoked to say bad stuff about it is like I said in the first paragraph: the fanboys. I've seen lots of them say "the only real RPG is FF," and idiotic stuff like that just pisses me off.

My 2 cents.

Cause it's the same game over and over.

This. Final Fantasy is a boring, repetitive JRPG series. Final Fantasy only differs with different characters and settings. The same lame story is always more or less the same in these JRPG games.

Final Fantasy is the most main stream JRPG series based on its sales and popularity.

Looking at your games collection, you have never owned a Final Fantasy...

Anyway, is having completely different battle systems not enough for you? And the 2 main series FF games that I have played had completely different stories, as did the 2 spin offs I have played

No two Final Fantasy games have even remotely close stories.

People hate Final Fantasy games?

The only main FF game I ever hear people saying they don't like is FFXII, I'm not sure if the spin off's count most of them suck.

Any very popular IP has the same thing - Naruto, Star Wars, Star Trek, Dragonball, Halo, GTA, etc.

What I find interesting is how opinions change about certain aspects of FF. For a while, it was cool to hate Amano because he was "yesterday's" news. Now it's cool to hate Nomura. FF9 (my favorite of the series) was hated a lot when it first came out, but now it's respected.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

i think some people hate final fantasy games is because there are a lot of great rpgs that get unnotice and underachieve in the rating scale because of them...e.g legend of dragoon reviewers compared it to final fantasy vii but it LOD was a great game as well but got bad reviews

Well, that's the difference. FFIX is the best of the 3D series. Yeah, it's fan service. But it's unabashed fan service. There is no pretense there and it did the crowd well.

What FF has done wrong is try to keep the same theme from FFVII and still try to draw off that crowd. The gameplay may have changed but the the characters are still as annoying as ever.

I don't hate any FF except FFXII.
I love all of them except FFXII.
Oh did I say that I hate FFXII?

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Big no. I can honestly say that spin-offs "suck. They just don't achieve universall acclaim (a.k.a AAA status). X-2 was playable and at the very least fun. crisis core is easily the best game the PSP has to offer.

and XII was possibly the best one in recent memory.
