Hopefully a good JRPG will come around and people can stop overrating this game.

Well I have to disagree with you. Personally I think this is the most underrated game of all time. It's better than so many other Jrpg's out there, that to me clearly people cant get fanboyism out their heads. ( Not necessarily aimed at you ) The game on these points is the best of any Jrpg game ever made.

Best of the genre are the following, which in a JRPG account for 80% of why we play them:

Voice Acting

Character Progression

Cinematography

Story Telling

An average RPG selling 800k is the most underrated game of all time? Nevermind Okami, ICO, or a bajillion other underrated games, it's the one that was a commercial success. It's really not better than a lot of other RPGs. Vesperia has come out during this RPG drought we have going and it stills beats Lost Odyssey. And then you claim it's the best JRPG ever made? I can't even take your post seriously here.

You misread my post. I actually think it's the 3rd best Jrpg Ive played. I said the points I listed it on it was the best of any Jrpg game. As I said it has the best VA, Character progression, cinematography, story telling. Please read the post correctly. Yes Imo I think it is the most underated game. I think it deserves the same sales as any FF game. I didnt say your opinion sucked, or made any comments to say anything about how good or bad your posts are. There was no need for the last sentence.

I didn't misread your point, I literally repeated what you said. And you say that voice acting, character progression, etc. are the major reasons people play RPGs. I disagree. If those were the main things I was looking for, I'd skip videogames all together and rent a movie. I play RPGs for their gameplay. Level and stat progression, the battle system, and so on. Lost Odyssey has a fixed leveling system so that your characters end up having balanced levels. While this does sound like a good idea, it doesn't work out so well in reality. The battle system is something you'd find in a PS1 RPG, and it holds many of the same cliches too.

And you still haven't explained how it's the most underrated game of all time. Sure it might not have sold as much as a Final Fantasy game, but it still sold nearly a million. How is that underrated? Okami and Halo 3 are close in review scores, but look at the difference in sales (not that I have anything against either game, they're both two of my favorite games of all time). Games sell by what the market wants, and this game sold like it a good Final Fantasy clone should.

As for the last sentence, allow me to quote you:

"It's better than so many other Jrpg's out there, that to me clearly people cant get fanboyism out their heads. ( Not necessarily aimed at you )"

So maybe your comment wasn't aimed at me, but you still think negatively of people who disagree with you.

Not at all. Thats aimed at people who constantly praise every iteration of FF and complaetely talk crap about LO. Now I know this is definately not you. But as a mod you know you have seen it. Not specifically at this site either. All across the net. I am a person who likes the setup of FF games. So straight away loved LO. But it is a more mature game than FF. But it's easy to see someone say in one post they love all Final Fantasy and in another post say LO is boring. I agree that some people genuinely wont like LO. After all we are all individuals. But I guarantee you if FF was on the cover, alot of people spouting crap about it would be praising it. But why comment on my post if you dont take it seriously?

Maybe underrated was the wrong word. I shouldve said, wrongly undermined. :)

I'm glad to see you're so positive about this argument. My apologies if I seemed harsh, I can get heated in debate. I think Final Fantasy is like any other popular series and people are willing to ignore its flaws because it's so popular. I've seen a lot of what you're talking about at Gamefaqs (assuming that was the site you were talking about). On one hand, I think Lost Odyssey holds a lot in common with Final Fantasy and yet still holds its own image. On the other hand, I realy wanted Mistwalker to complement the game's uniqueness with an advanced and innovative combat system. That would have made the game a gem for me. I have nothing against the environments of Lost Odyssey or its story, but the battle system is important for me, and I know Mistwalker could have done better there. That's all I'm saying.

It's a good game but I would maybe give it an 8/10, although I haven't completed the story yet.

I'm sorry if I came across as attacking your opinion to. :) It wasnt meant that way. I agree with you alot actually about LO. Hence my review didnt really give Kudos to the battle system. It does play it safe. I guess battle system is important to me to. But I''m a succker for character progression and storytelling in Jrpg's. :)

That's alright. I did like the dream sequences, although some of them seemed to drag on forever. At first they were great, then it was like, "OMG THERE IT GOES AGAIN!"

Battle system, story and character progression are all important aspects of jrpgs.  Some people have opinions about what is important to what genre.

Lol, this is how I felt.

for me story and level grinding, replay value, how u learn abilities and the characters are what i look for in any rpg i play. in a battle system i look for a system that does a decent job in making the battle flow with ease and fun.
