Forums - Sony - How many sales are needed to break even for a PSP game?

People on this website have a good idea on game development costs on this website and am interested in this. Obviously costs for PSP game development is the same as any other game with costs varying among different games however a generalization would be nice.

Using common sense costs are nowhere close to HD game development (:O) and since apparently 1 million sales is needed to break even on a HD game ______ amount of sales would be needed to break even on a PSP game. The biggest difference of course though is that HD games sell at a higher price at retail compared to PSP games.

I don't believe that all (HD) games need 1 mill to break even. Just larger projects like Killzone 2, Gears Of War,ect. I would thin kthat depending on the game, they might need a few hundred thousand for a game like god of war, FFVII: Crisis Core, ect

Yeah, for HD just those super project need 1 million to be profitable, and if it is a franchise just the first one considering all next games will use the same engine and have much lower costs. I think most of the games need just 100 thousand or a little more, the 360 jrpg probably were all profitable, maybe with exception of Lost Odyssey that is for sure a super project.

Coming back to PSP, i think the system have much similar dev costs of the ps2 nowadays, big projects like Monster Hunter, Crisis Core needed just a few thousand and GTA probably needen somthing like 500k.Normal games should need just 40k and those play novel even less the 2 thousand.
