Forums - Sony - How is Folklore?

the main story is rather short if you think of it as a JRPG, but to me it seems more like a brawler type game anyway. Regardless, the main storyline is around 10 hours, but that can be lengthenned with side missions.

The main issue of the game is that it gets repetitive. You have to go each of the Faery Worlds (levels) twice, and though the way you'll go through them and what faeries you'll defeat will change, the general background and the boss at the end does not change. This combines with the button mashing gameplay to make this game feel unfortunately short and repetitive.

The best thing the game does is atmosphere, the music, graphics, and general storyline all work together wonderfully. You really feel like you are in a creepy murder mystery or in a world of faeries.

I'm just about done with the game, and will be writing a review probably this weekend or next since Machina asked me to.  Was happy to find an excuse to make myself finish the game, it really has an interesting story.

Yes, I would definitely recommend this game, especially for 20 bucks. Like people have said, the ending is odd, but I found the artstyle, music and graphics amazing. I couldn't believe a few moments in the game, I kinda had to stop and stare for a moment, not because it looks as technically good as Crysis or something, but because of how rich the style is, quite beautiful. An atmosphere of mystery, a very cool mystery game. The motion controls are definitely cool, don't feel tacked on. I understand how it could be repetitive, but for the love of vgchartz, support new ip's that have style and have refreshing ideas, like the storytelling methods. In conclusion, do it.

@ Mirson - What DLC are you talking about? I would like to have the ending elaborated.

It's a good game, one of my favorites on the PS3. The music is wonderful

Right, totally forgot about that... the music is awesome!

(also agree with the rest of the post btw. ;) however you should mention, that there actually is a slight difference between the characters gameplay wise... -> playing as Keith, you become invincible and get stronger attacks when you filled up a gauge for a short time, whereas Ellen can wear various clothes which add positive status effects to her... the enemies are also a bit different)

Second best RPG in this generation so far after Valkyria Chronicles (my opinion)

and not including handhelds ( Crisis core is the best overall)

Give me a minute. The quest in the DLC gives you a hint about Keats. Also there's quite a few hints throughout the game about Keats.

It's an interesting title with a really a unique and quite impressive artstyle (and score to accompany it). The combat system is also pretty cool, but in the end it turns into a bit of a repetitive button masher. The only challenge is assigning the right moves to the right buttons.

Despite claiming it has little challenge, I never finished it because I got stuck on some boss like six hours in. xD

Edit:  This is making me want to pop it in and finish it, but I know I'll just be stuck on that same damn boss. Dx

I am going to go to ebgames. Maybe it will be on sale for there yearly "gamer days sale" and i am going to pick up VC while i am there.... I just cant resist any more

Post a mini-review when you finish it.  I usually hear good things from this game overall, nothing like the Valkyria Chronicles reaction, but positive nonetheless.
