Droping the sales price for the wii is like giving beer to a drunk guy.

Price cuts do not excite customers in this economy. It would only reach a group that see the value of Wii at that price not attract customers.

With the unemployment rate where it is there are probably people that would like to purchase one but just can't afford it at that price.( the issue is not perceived value but just the lack of money...)

Price drop will not steal customers from the PS3 in Japan it is true. But there are probably customers that can't afford it at the current price...

Saying price woudn't change things is thinking that the majority of the population has enough disposable income that they can spend 250$ on a game console and that is living very far from reality...

Increase in revenue isn't always an increase in profit. I'm sure Iwata has some idea of how to be a CEO of one of the worlds most successful companies; I don't know call it a hunch.
