With the unemployment rate where it is there are probably people that would like to purchase one but just can't afford it at that price.( the issue is not perceived value but just the lack of money...)
If prices did not attract people in this economy why is Wall Mart the only retailer to see an increase in revenue these days?
Price drop will not steal customers from the PS3 in Japan it is true. But there are probably customers that can't afford it at the current price...
Saying price woudn't change things is thinking that the majority of the population has enough disposable income that they can spend 250$ on a game console and that is living very far from reality...
