Forums - Gaming - PS3 is Not More Powerful than Xbox 360, says game Dev!

@MikeB
You put a lot of stuff there. Honestly, BluRay has lots of good points against DVDs, from the lower roatation speed (less noise) to - obviously - the capacity.

But once your file seeking has ended, if you are loading a lot of sequential data as in a big level all in one go - instead of streaming smaller amounts - it's the transfer rate that will matter.
And if the most read data are placed on the outer rim of the DVD, on the first layer, then the loading would be quicker on the DVD.

This is a never end thing...

Devs, stop feeding the fire already, focus on talking about the games you're doing or provide useful info, i'm tired of this "X console is better than Y console says dev" nonsense... Tomorrow i'm gonna say "Developing apps for Ubuntu is better than doing them for Windows", to see if i get some press too...

@ WereKitten

That's what my posting says, however most games are on dual layer DVD and small games fitting on single layer are small enough to install completely onto the default harddrive, which is always faster.

PS3 vs 360 sales

One - the OP post is misleading as in fact he's saying the PS3 doesn't have a natural graphic advantage and that developers don't see value in leveraging its processing specs (which are more powerful). He's relating power to graphics and ignorning many other aspects of what 'power' could mean. He's also really relating it to ease of use/low cost as well.

Two - as with all the developer posts we've seen its centric to their own knowledge and experience. What's he's really saying is that when producing a multi-platform game the 360 is easier due to its SDK and approach vs PS3 (which is well known although a little out of date as new SDK for PS3 is available). He also shows he'd rather focus on a CPU/GPU architecture than PS3 Cell architecture - this is simply personal bias due to experience. Nothing wrong with it, but it also means taking his views on PS3 coding with a pinch of salt as he would clearly tail PS3 centric developers by a fair way in knowledge.

Three - given most multi-plats sell roughly same on PS3 install base as larger 360 the incentive should be there so I'm guessing he's not let near the actual running of the business as his comment makes no sense regarding sales (unless he's thinking US centric, which I suppose he might be but again this only makes clear he doesn't understand global picture)

So nothing new, another opinion for everyone to argue over, and the usual inconsistencies in message.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

For the price difference... I would very much hope so.

It dates back to October 2007, that's why.

Ah.  But wait... is the whole thing from 2007 (in which case why even discuss this) or do you mean you think his sales comments are based on that period while his development comments are based on current status?

WOW

He must really know what hes talking about... yaknow, working on the graphical powerhouse that is Rockband.

His statements are obliterated by ps3 exclusives
