The first one wasn't a bad game that has some bad puzzles, meh QTE's events, and boring design. From what I heard the second one is just more of the same thing.

I don't think RE5 is overrated cause it isn't rated that high. It was hyped and I was impatient to see it come out but even reviewers were disappointed, hence it not being rated that high.
