Forums - Gaming - What order should I play my back catalog of games?

1. The Witcher - start with it, its worth it. It's a long game and a bit tuff to get into, so if u dont do it now u will never play this game due to lack of time.
2. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - this next because it's a classic and u laready put a few hours into it so it will still be fresh enuff in your memory
3. Fallout 3 (360) - it's one of those games every respected gamer should play throu. And really great of course.
4. Beyond Good and Evil (PC) - classic evergreen

If u still have energy move over to these and rush though them just becaue theyre solid but not spectacular current gen games:
5. Saints Row 2
6. Killzone 2
7. Resistance 2

The rest I would ignore (xcept perhaps Madworld and Valkyria Chronicles if u want to remain a respected and knowledgable elite forum member of VGC)

I suggest starting with the shorter games. Once you finish a few of those it should make tackling the longer ones seem a little easier.

I say start with Madworld first. Very short game, you said you already played and loved it. Shouldn't take you more then six hours.

Next, I’d move onto Dead Space. Average length game, not difficult, another one you said you liked. Unless you're trying to get every trophy it shouldn't take all that long either.

Then I’d start on Beyond Good and Evil. Another 10-hourish game, and a good one.

I agree and I suggest to finish two of the point & click games (Dreamfall, S&M) from your list before or after those mentioned by BrainBox.

Generally I'd finish all the shorter ones before I'd start with the epic ones (and sandbox games) and I would mix a little bit of de Blob and Mercury Meltdown in beetween.

A special suggestion regarding A Vampyre Story: All reviews and forum discussions I read about this game stated that it ends with a massive cliffhanger. Part 2 ("A Bat's Tale") is already in the making. I will definitely buy part 1 soon (I can't resist anyway), but I already decided not to play/finish it before part 2 is out.

Really? I always thought the original Longest Journey is considered a classic, not its sequel Dreamfall.

U are right of course. I automatically read The Longest Journey, the original. My bad.

So IMO he can scratch it (the sequel) from his playing list entirely.

I've been playing Beyond Good and Evil. You should play that first since there is a sequel in development. It's an excellent game. The game is one of the text book examples of how a story driven game should be done: Great writing, A class voice acting, great cutscenes, etc.

All I can say is that Lost Odyssey is a fantastic game, and if you give yourself time to get into it (assuming you like jRPGs), it is incredible, but it certainly won't help you get through your back catalogue

Killzone 2 on the other hand is a good place to start in terms of getting through games, it took me 6 hours and is good fun, Call of Duty 4 is also one of the greatest games, but I can't say I really know about many of the others

So judging from the responses, I guess my order will look something like this (and probably playing more than one game at a time):

  1. A Vampyre Story - I'm already a good way into this one, might as well finish it now
  2. Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door - Really want to play this one
  3. Beyond Good and Evil -I know I have two long ones in a row here, but really want to play this one too
  4. Dead Space - Shorter game to give myself a break
  5. Fallout 3 - Longer game that I can do a quick playthrough and come back later to take everything in
  6. Madworld - Short fun game
  7. Valkyria Chronicles - long game
  8. de Blob - short game
  9. Saint's Row II - long game
  10. Killzone 2 -short game (I'm not a huge multiplayer fan)

And there will probably be bits of ExciteTruck in there too when that game comes out because I love me some Excite Truck.

^ What about the other dozen? You're just gonna let them rot in the bookshelf aren't you?

nope, I'll think about them when I done with that first batch.  I'm sure by then I'll have a whole new set of games to go through.

LOL i didn't know beyond good and evil was that good??? I go try it.

I can't be specific but personally I think you should get the short games out of the way.

I find it hard to play something like fallout3 first, I mean you play that game for like days/weeks and then you realize that you still have a huge backlog to go through still.

To me when you have too many games at hand you tend to enjoy each one less, because you're just trying to get past one game to the next.

just a perspective though.
