Forums - PC - Help on a PC graphics card.

Well i'm goina upgrade my graphics card in my PC and was wondering where i can get one for around the $100 mark that could play a game like crysis on medium or better settings.

And i don't know really anything about graphics cards or what the stats in each one of them mean.

Any help would be appreciated!!

-Edit--Also i would like the graphics card to include the ability to capture videos from my 360.

And whats the best video capturing software, cause the one i'm using on my brothers computer has green lines going through it whenever i try to capture video and we can't figure out how to fix that.

Thats a tricky one, i'm from Aus, so i'm not too sure on your prices, but a 9600gt would be able to run it on medium, or if you happened to find a last gen 8800gt, that would do the job fine. I'm not completely sure how much they cost in the US though.

I believe they cost around $130 a year ago and the 9800gt's have taken their place.

For example, here is an EVGA 9800gt 512mb video card with a factory overclock for $114.99 after $5 instant savings and $20 rebate.

Yeah, i knew they stopped making 8800gt's, but i guess you could still find them somewhere. That 9800gt for that price is pretty good. Not much over budget, and will play most new games fine. My 8800gt runs crysis on medium no worries.

My 8800gt could do Crysis decently (would chug in moments of lots of action) at the highest graphical settings possible (though the resolution wasn't that high and the AA was either at 2x or off) and that includes the config trick to enable the unavailable settings on XP.

I don't know a whole lot of performance benchmarks though nor do I know the selection of ATI cards available (to get both sides of the spectrum mentioned). I recall the Radeon 4850 having some better performance than the 8800gt's for a similar price last year.

I got a refurbished GeForce 9600 GT for 80$. works great and under 100$ but i dont know if its available still.

Yeah, i thought about the ati side of things, but i don't know enough to really recommend them. Although i have been looking at some of their newer cards, and i'm quite impressed...

My 8800gt was the same with Crysis. I could pump it up to high (xp too) but it would stutter along when there was a lot of action. So a 9800gt should do fine, you would think.

I don't know why everyone wants to run Crysis though. That game was disappointing.

I thought Crysis was okay, but some of the gameplay annoyances from Far Cry made their way in and ruined parts of it.

The start of the game was great. I loved how the environment felt open, you could get an optional objective, and the element of stealth felt like it worked at that point in time. Once you're on your own without the squad, gameplay devolved into a more frustrating experience. The whole alien ship thing was meh, but I found the game to get more interesting once you got out of the alien ship (minus the VTOL flying). You didn't have to deal with annoying humans and the feel of the game turned into a tense escape which was different from the earlier parts.

Err what quality do you want to capture in? If you're thinking HD resolutions $100 wouldn't buy the capture hardware.

Tease.
