Forums - Microsoft - Occasional RROD

So I got my 360 about 3 months ago now and I've noticed that about 2 times a week I will get an RROD on it. Now let me say that the system is on about 50% of the day every day. I have yet to have it actually hit me while playing a game but I want to know if this is common and if it will get progressively worse. Thanks guys.

leaving the system on when not in use just increases the amount of wear you put on the system, which will cause it to fail much sooner than it should (this goes for all electronics). It also increases your energy bill and is just wasteful for no reason. If you are walking out of the room and coming right back, just leave it on. But if you are going to be gone for 20 minutes or more, just shut the thing off.

Anyways, you obviously have a problem and should contact Microsoft for a replacement.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I darent leave mine on even if i leave the room, but 50% of the day? Thats 12 hours a day!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Anomalies in electric supply (tension spikes, etc) will usually trigger a RROD.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

by RROD you mean 3 red lights or 4? there is a big difference. 4 isn't really a big deal, I think that just means your 360 lost it's connection to the tv which means either the cord is loose or you just have a bad cord. If it is 3 than you have a problem and should probably contact microsoft about.

Also 1 and 2 blincking red lights mean something as well. I think 2 blinking is the E74 issue. Can't remember what 1 is.

My cousin's 360 would occasionally RROD, he eventually had to send it in after it completely RROD while he was playing his games.

Thanks for the tips.

When it does RROD it is 3 red lights. Is that significant?

To address the reason why it is on so much. Mostly it is because it is a community toy in my house. I ask serve a lot of media to it. 50% might be an exageration- but not by too much. I didn't really mind too much that people use it since I figured if it died I'm a few months I would get an updated revision.

I have 360 on everyday and sometimes just leave it idle.. its built nov 2006 and still going.. been serviced twice but still no "full" RRoD..

I did get a RRoD from FFXI a few weeks ago and the machine switched itself off ... I turned it back on and it just went back to normal and I carried on playing FFXI for another few hours.. I think that was during the weekend when I had the 360 on for like 20+ hours continuous

Just check to make sure the cable is plugged in properly.
