Forums - Gaming - Why would anyone but Wii owners care about The Conduit?

to be honest, this is the only place i see the conduit being discussed. I have yet to see it mentioned anywhere else.

My only complaint about the Conduit is the style. It looks like Duke Nukem with some Halo-esque aliens thrown in, and with a main character that looks like a secret agent from an 80s movie who's sporting plastic gizmos and gadgets. It just looks cheesy.

Duke Nukem was great (for it's time), don't dis the Duke.  I may be strange in my tastes, but I prefer a bunch of funny cheesy dialogue to swearing, so to me those are pluses.  Aliens may be over done, but at least it's not as overdone as WW 2...  It's a game, the whole point is to have fun playing it.

If it's really like the Duke, Wii furtherly raises its rank in my wish list

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

You just made me care about the game. Still won't get it though - me and the first-person perspective don't mix.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

It could be that the owners of other consoles are (a) jealous or (b) worried because this game has the "potential" to provide the Wii with an excellent game in a genre where it is underrpresented.

Or it could be that people just don't like the Wii getting anything that resembles a good game.

Let's take for instance Carnival Games. People forget that when it was released it was one of the first third-party minigame collections and that it uses the Havok engine and that it has a lot of in-game collectibles which increased its replay value. Still, people rag on it -- usually those who don't own a Wii or have never played it.

Mike from Morgantown

You know, that annoys me also.  People rag on Carnival Games, but people need to get real here.  Like Wii Bowling, Carnival Games happens to be innovative in the videogame front.  It attempts to do something we don't see normally, using a more intuitive interface.  And yet, it gets ragged on.  Even I have been tempted to pick it up sometime.

It gets a double shot by non-Wii owners who feel that gore=mature, and defensive Wii owners who hang out here, who feel embarrassed by Carinval Games not being "hardcore" enough.  It is entirely possibly that this defensiveness is leading to an excessive hyping of The Conduit, and being upset if the Wii is reduced to a casual player's game machine (not too many "hardcore" games).

Well, all this being said, I do hope that The Conduit proves to be a good game, and worth picking up.  I do own a Wii after all.  My initial question was a call partly to have people hyping it explain why I should get interested in it.

@Richardhutnik: I do too see the attitude towards Carnival Games a little stupid. I haven't played it, but it looks interesting and the consept of the game is pretty obvious to appeal people of all ages.

Another thing why people may want to hype Conduit is, that there aren't many titles in that genre that had been done ground-up for Wii in mind and actually put a lot of effort into it. Effort doesn't naturally equal good game, but atleast HVS have tried to create something good. The uncatered market raises its head.
At the same time the same people hope Conduit being a huge success in order for it to generate more software support in the genre.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Wow, 99% of all wii fans are getting overexcited about this game. I hope the result happens.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

One reason::::

Controls (IF DONE RIGHT), will be the main draw for other console owners.

I am sure the Conduitwill be good but definetely no Unreal Tournament. I really think that if Conduit controls suceed and the game takes over, we will see bigger and better FPS (in terms of video stories during the game etc...)

Who knows Conduit might have decent in game videos for the story, it is just that they haven't shown any.

Mouse + keyboard may be "better", but I'd rather point at the screen and play with the wii remote any day...well, most days.

Why should 360 and PS3 owners care about The Conduit? Because of it's kickass controls. When the game comes out we'll find out if the rest of the game holds up as well.

I believe actually the mouse part of that equation is better.  Mouse+Keyboard gets hyped up, because it is what people are used to with their computers.  I believe a mouse+analog stick would be even better for aiming plus movement.  Dual analog stick isn't better than mouse+keyboard.  It is interesting how they got dual analog to work for FPS actually.

faster weapon switch and more binds for more complex things, it doesn't matter as much if the game only gives you a few weapons to work with at a time but if you play something that has more than 2-3 weapons while requiring you to do more tasks, it's way too slow, and hence console FPS are not as complex in general.

i think the hype over the Conduit is over the Wii controls for it, Wii owners are hopeful that The Conduit will take full advantage of the Wii controls and be one of the most fun shooters on the Wii
