Forums - General - Nuclear Proliferation is not the way to go

I believe it isn't the way to go considering that if both sides didn't have nukes during the Cold War (USA + Russia) then this "War" would have turned into a real war killing millions.  The mutual destruction plan prevented both sides from facing off with each other.  Sure a few mishaps almost happened (almost launching missile strike due to thinking one was being attacked) but the systems have improved and that shouldn't happen anymore.  If anything there should be a nuclear arms reduction.  A country doesn't need 20,000 or however many nukes.  A few thousand nukes should be plenty enough deterrence and reducing the number will reduce the possibility that they end up in the wrong hands.  Nuclear weapons have prevented a full scale or World War.

What's your point? U want more nukes, less nukes or no nukes at all?

IMO it dont matter if the US and Russia have 20 or 20,000 nukes, as long as Iran and other rogue states don't get any.

Less nukes for the major countries but to try and make countries like USA, Russia, etc.. nuke free is a bad idea. Pakistan has nukes and they are a little unstable right now.

So you do like them and you don't.....

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

I like the deterrence effect they have, but I don't agree with having more than what is needed.

Nuking is a way of life

I think the US should keep its deterrent. Getting rid of our stockpiles will not only weaken our military prowess but will invite attacks from both nation-states and terrorist regimes.

Firstly, nukes aren't a deterrent to terrorist groups. So I'll ignore them.

For nations, what nations have both the capability and motive to attack America? Any country with the capability has strong trade links with America and/or its NATO partners, so damaging America would destroy their own country financially and politically much more than the US would suffer. Any country with a motive (Iran etc.) isn't affected by what goes on in the real world so would act the same way no matter whether the US had nukes or not, because they are irrational.

If America and its allies, and Russia, got rid of thier nukes then that would be >95% of the world's nuclear weapons removed. Even if no one else does it wouldn't it be worth it?

I would be ok with having 10x more. Why not have the most destructive military might posable?

Not interested in ever using them, but no good reason to get rid of them.

So how many times can the US destroy the Earth with all it's nukes? 2 times would be enough just to be sure as long as the nukes arent too old
