Forums - Nintendo - Even Wired thinks Sony's PR Spin on DSi is "crazy talk"

I don't think he's saying that ds doesn't serve all ages. Rather, he's saying that dsi is nothing new compared to the ds, which I kinda agree with. I wonder how many people will upgrade from the dslite to the dsi which is more expensive and doesn't really have any better features compared to the ds, infact, that battery life is teh suck.
I don't see how any of the features will contribute to a better game. I personally have a ds because the games are cheap, there are always used copies, the battery is incredible, and it has quite a few interesting features (aside from the mic IMO).

I don't understand he makes a valid argument, the PSP does have a large and diverse software lineup this year and it also has a much more robust online store. Whether or not the DSi will expand the current DS audience remains to be seen.

"this year" =/= the previous 3 years.

Also, if anything, the DS has a far broader audience than the PSP does.  Kohler explained that in the article and even provided links to back that up (for Japan, at least).

I'm not trying to belittle the DS, it certainly has great success and it does reach a more diverse audience then the PSP, but anyone who would belittle the PSP is just as much a fool as someone who would bellitle the DS. As for sony's statement there really anything that offensive in it. He merely points out the strengths of the PSP and questions if the DSi will be able to convince people to buy one who wouldn't buy a DS. It seems people are jumping down his throat for no real reason.

Interesting that the people defending his statements have berserk avatars

The DSi has expanded functionality which will be incorporated into gameplay (see DSiWare's Wario Ware game).  Plenty of people who own DSLites are going to buy the new DSi, myself included.  You'll see evidence of this in the coming weeks when DS numbers skyrocket on the front page.

"If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the "kids" market that they've always engaged, there isn't much new with the DSi to support that."

It is boarder line offensive and it is 100% wrong.

He wasn't belittling the PSP.  He was just calling Koller out on the misinformation he spewed in that statement.

The argument about DSi not being enough of an upgrade could easily be applied to PSP-2000, PSP-3000. Both of those upgrades provided sales boosts and i'm sure when the numbers are in you will see boosts to DS sales.

Playing: InFamous, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, Modern Warfare 2

minor upgrade to a console or heldhand is nothing new to the industry, what Sony dont tell you is that they are doing the same exact shit with their own porduct. It a bussiness decision to garner as much sales as possible, but using this everyday practice to give your competition a cheap jab only show how unintelligent their PR can get.

Considering the DS is well on its way to being the top selling platform ever, is there really a missing demographic left?
