^ I can't believe that I have just read somebody saying SO4 & GeOW2 are the same at the core... My eyes must be fooling me...

It's about as valid as saying Mass Effect is an shooter...but THAT didn't fool your eyes...

Mass Effect isn't on a dice roll at all. You have to aim to hit. Your accuracy levels make that cursor smaller but that's about as RPGish as the combat itself goes.

Don't mean to diss you, but have you played the game?  It's very much a dice roll...sure, you need to have it in the approximate area of the target, but it's NOT a system like Gears of War:

"This isn’t turn based, roll the dice and see what happens, combat. You don’t have to aim precisely either, because hits are still based on dice roll. Mass Effect’s combat is a happy mix of the two"

They tried to blend and disguise the dice roll with the TPS gloss, but it' still basically a dice roll at it's core mechanics.  Now, have you played Star Ocean's...for example...That combat engine doesn't seem to be a dice roll, but I could be wrong.  Saying Mass Effect isn't a dice roll...is like saying Oblivion or Fable 2 isn't...I don't get that at all...in Fable, you can FPS targets...does that make it a shooter?

Mass Effect is as much a TPS as say Uncharted or MGS4. Both aren't TPS, but they all are third person games and the main mechanic is third person shooting.

Star Ocean (which I have now but I lot of time into) is definitely completely unlike ME. And yes, I have beaten ME. I still don't think it based on a dice roll.

I apologize if I offended anyone with my abbreviation of Japanese. It was, quite honestly, not my intention. I am quite shocked that it was considered offensive. Just for my edification, are all abbreviations offensive?

Don´t sweat it.

It´s funny the people who are most vocal about little things like that (the word 'Jap', black people in RE5, etc..) are white people..a few Japanese friends I met here in the U.S. told me they really don´t even mind the abbreviation.

In a lot of these cases, the people who would theoretically be really offended don´t even mind, while the people who theoretically have nothing to do with that are the ones making a mountain out of a molehill.

Not matter what their country of origin, the stupidity of fanboys never ceases to amaze. Side note: What is with his Mass Effect is TPS talk? Try using the sniper rifle without leveling the skill and tell me that's it a TPS again. Mass Effect is an action RPG. Your characters stats, determine your hit rate, defense, damage etc.
