Forums - Nintendo - Wii Motion Plus is Too Accurate

"Much rather have a tech that's too accurate, and can be toned down be developers, than a tech that's not accurate enough and can't be fixed."

Excellent point. Devs can use as much or as little of the functionality as they like. No one's saying you have to use the full range if you feel you can make a better game without it.

umm the correctly terminology would be " overtly sensitive" and NOT "too accurate".. which kinda sux coz it defeats the whole purpose of the add on.

I see this peripheral flopping unless they bundle it with the wii outta the box...

what he is actually trying to say is if they used it at its full sensativety, you would need to be able to play tennis in real live to actually not suck at the game. Not that it is bad.

What's the point of motion plus , seriously ? . Without looking at sales data I can guarantee that no peripheral not sold with a console since it's launch has ever had an attach ratio of more than 50% , this is because the consumer expects a complete experience at the time of purchase (also one of the advantages consoles have over PC's).

I think Motion Plus should be saved as a selling point for the next nintendo console , Ninty could use it to attract core gamers who are more interested in the science behind motion controls , they would appreciate motion plus. But right now it's just pointless.

Exactly, I don't think it'll sell very well unless it's bundled with a game or something as it's too late in the console's life. Plus the demographic of the wii, mostly children and casual gamers, won't know what it is

Well, just wait and see. Between multiple units sold per Wii, a probably bundle with Wii Sports Resort... and possible integration in future Wiimotes? We'll see more than fifty million sold, I'm sure.

The point, though?

The point is making games better.

I'm actually excited about motion plus now.

Hopefully we'll get some great sports games and games with sword fighting out of this.

assuming ofcourse that with 1/4 billion spent on R&D they actually don't have any other ideas already developed for Wii 2.

They do. I agree that it will be difficult to sell it to cores who already decided the Wii is bullshit but if they give it away cheap, and eventually just build it into the wiimote, then there won't be a problem and no one will care.

Casuals will keep buying and reviews will be much more positive in terms of controls.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

50 million by when??? Currently it'll mean a 100% attach rate which is not possibe.

In other words,EA dumbed it down for grandma to play so no skill is required.

This article tells us two things to expect:
Motion+ = success
Grand Slam Tennis= Failure

@Ninjakido & 786-Ali - It was mentioned that a Motion+ accessory would be bundled with Wii Sports Resort, so yes it does come with a game.

As for the point of an accessory not selling well with a game, need I mention Wii Play? Came with a controller, sold through the roof for a pretty medicore to sucky game.

The funny thing here is, that if Motion+ is successfully mastered and as accurate as claims say, no matter what anyone does next gen for motion controls, they can only be as good as Motion+. THis pulls any power or steam for motion controls next gen. People will say "well, we already have this. THis works like last gen stuff." Pretty much for controls, MS and Sony will be hit with what Nintendo was hit regarding Wii graphics.

Edit - Ali - 50 mil is possibe. Remember, 4 controls max with motion plus = a max possibe of 200m motion+ units for 100% attach, 50m is only 25% attach.
