Gay people might just as well (at least for a decade or so after having marriage legalized) respect it more than straight ones. It's not something that's the norm for them, they are not expected to do it.

I can't count how many of my high school/college friends got married just because. It's something you do, society totally expects it and doesn't question it at all, and the people often don't ask themselves if they know what they are doing.
How high is the devorce rate percentage for those sacremental special unions? Speaking of which the majority of people I know who married in a church hadn't stepped in one since the last time they frequented another friend's marriage, and many others don't even bother with the church.

Legal benefits between consenting homosexuals is fine. One of the arguments is that gay culture isn't interested in monogamy.

  • 20% of homosexuals have had more than 51 sexual partners.

The last study has also shown than "all couples with a relationship lasting more than 5 years have incorporated some provision for outside sexual activity in their relationships."...Do you realize how damning that is for benefits/acklowledgement for recognizing rights for a group of people that really aren't interested in monogamy?

I'm not trying to demonize homosexuals. But those are in fact, actual statistics about the community. With a culture that's not interested in marriage....Why should it be awarded that? How about every homosexual bath house is closed in America, in return for gay marriage? Would that be acceptable to the gay community?

Well I don't think I personally am going to have more than 51 sexual partners...

Unless my significant other is into threeways? Unless I'm into orgies?

Well, what's wrong with sex out of marriage if you use protection?

Marriage has nothing to do with who, or how many people you fuck anyway.

Who cares? It doesn't hurt you or me or anyone if they're gay, so give them the equal rights that a person in a non-theocratic state deserve.

And yes, I think we should allow everything that doesn't harm people.  I don't see how being born with a particular trait harms anybody.  If you're born gay, straight, blonde, white, black, male, female, or anything in between, or a midget or a hermaphrodite or with any mental or physical deformity or disability in any way, I don't think that should affect any legal status in any way.

What doesn't "naturally" occur in most species?  Certainly, murder, rape, and anything else do.

Finally, I could argue that you're being a "harm-o-phobe", but maybe I'll quite now ;)

Lol, this reminds me of a collegue who said something along the lines of "When I imagine gay people at it, it makes me sick".
I really had to laugh and ask him why he was imagining gay sex in the first place.

Thinking about really ugly people having sex grosses me out too. Doesn't mean they should not be allowed to marry
