Gay people might just as well (at least for a decade or so after having marriage legalized) respect it more than straight ones. It's not something that's the norm for them, they are not expected to do it.

I can't count how many of my high school/college friends got married just because. It's something you do, society totally expects it and doesn't question it at all, and the people often don't ask themselves if they know what they are doing.
How high is the devorce rate percentage for those sacremental special unions? Speaking of which the majority of people I know who married in a church hadn't stepped in one since the last time they frequented another friend's marriage, and many others don't even bother with the church.
