Forums - General - There is no such thing as "curse" words.

The only reason that words are branded "curse" words is because society taught us to believe this. If "curse" words are bad then why were they created in the first place. The words that are said to be "curse" words are felt to be so because of the way a group of people felt. This expanded into a whole mainstream feeling which forever forbid the words usage. So no matter what mainstream society tells you, you should always come up with your own answers instead of following the close-minded society. People are so easily influenced that they will believe anything that the majority tells you. This is why I believe that there are no such things as "curse" words.

Not true. There's a very good reason these words are socially unacceptable. (at times) These words are, in their original use, associated with hatred and anger, and are therefore offensive. Of course, they are also used for humor, sarcasm, etc., but these are only useful in those situations because of the offensive nature of the words. When some people want to show that they are very angry, they will swear. If they want to show how much they hate something/someone, they will swear. That's why they are curse words, that's why they are offensive.

There's a huge difference between saying, "Your girlfriend is such an annoying and demanding person." and, "Your girlfriend is such a *****."

I was about to agree with this thread when I read the title. But oh man you picked the worst example to defend, ahahhaa. I think most people know the difference between bad words that don't hurt people and bad words that do hurt people.

Some curse words do have some meaning depending on how you use them. If you say "fuck" often because you think it's nothing, the word eventually loses all meaning. If someone that rarely ever cusses uses it, there's alot more feeling to it.

They can be a good way to express negative emotion if you don't overuse them.

Look at "Nigger" (Not necessarily a curse word) is branded "bad" because of slavery, but the real definition of the word is ignorant person.
