Forums - Nintendo - Rant of the Day: 8 exclusives that Wii ruined

  • Onslaught-- He complains having to move his cursor to turn and that sucks for FPS games, but isn't that what you have to do on the PC which is supposed to be the best for FPS?
  • de Blob-- I still haven't played the game even though I own it but if jumping is that important and using the motion controls is that big of a deal, why do so many people sit there and talk about how great the game is?
  • Wii Fit-- so if the Wii ruined this exclusive, what would have been better on?
  • Animal Crossing: City Folk-- I haven't played this but isn't it a different game and about as different as one Pokemon game is from the other?  If it's the same game with a few added functions, how did that ruin it?  I'm not defending the game, I just fail to see his point.
  • Elebits-- I think he's just retarded on this point.  Elebits controller fine and again, if it wasn't for the Wii, what system would he want it on?  Not even the PC can do depth.
  • Madworld-- So he's griping that the game needs skill?
  • Star Wars: Clone wars-- I'll let him call that game bad.
  • No More Heroes-- so the game sucked because he didn't like recharging the sword?  Does he get mad at Gears for having to reload?

The guy who wrote that "article" is a tool and only fishing for hits.

Twes have you ever played a PC FPS where the target wasn't locked in the center of the screen?

I've not actually played Onslaught, so I dunno how truthful he is. If you really do need the crosshair to move to the very edge to turn though that is pretty bad, it should start turning you well before reaching the edge of the screen.

Don't you have to use your mouse to turn like that on PC shooters as well though?

You usually have front, back, strafe left, and strafe right.  If you want to turn you move your mouse to the side of the screen and you start turning.  when you're done you move your mouse to the center to target the enemy again.

Maybe I misunderstood what he was saying, but it seemed like he was making more of a point that console shooter controls are better than mouse/pointer controls.

Note-- I haven't even heard of Onslaught before this thread so I'm just assuming it controls like Metroid or Elebits.

The controls in Onslaught are great, I don't know what he's talking about. As for "refocussing", just point at what you want to shoot and shoot. It works, even if the target is moving on screen(and you follow it to the centre) it's still perfectly intuitive.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

It's controls are just like Metroid's.

PC FPS's do have their own problem in this sphere, though:  the "pick up and set down your mouse" problem of physical range of motion.

Anyhow, the Wii works far better than thumbsticks when properly optimized (Metroid), if you ask me, but I also haven't played Onslaught, so I don't know if the devs were truly so inept as to have an enormous bounding box.

How did the Wii ruin Elebits? I think it's one of the best Wii games out there STILL, and can only be done on the Wii. Not only do you use the IR controls to point and shoot, but you can push, pull, and twist objects as you launch them everywhere. You even turn door knobs, faucets, and twist objects into each other to get them to connect, like shoving food into an oven and stuff. You can walk, grab something, and move it around in all 3 dimensions while twisting it at the same time, while dodging an enemy attack. I can't imagine doing all that at once with any other control interface.

Wait, Wii Fit?!??! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH. I must've skipped that in the OP by accident. Wow.

I guess this guy didn't unlock the exercises that use the Wii remote instead of the Balance Board. Or do the yoga exercise where you pull your head out of your ass.

Great find.

When you move your mouse the screen instantly moves, with the crosshair locked in place in the center at all times.

Oh, that's right.  Sorry, it has been a while since I played and payed attention to a PC FPS.

Hmm, well someone else said it plays like Metroid and that controlled like a dream after taking about 5 minutes to get use to it so I assume they're pretty close.  Moving your cursor back to the middle of the screen isn't a big deal, especially if they provide a lock-on feature.

It really just takes some getting use to and spending more than five minutes with the game.

That was so... Unbelievable. I'm not sure was it supposed to be funny or not, but atleast i had a laugh.

Wii Fit was one of my favourites. If you have an excercise game, what are you supposed to be doing in it other than moving around.
Mario Kart skipping the gimmicry was a golden line too. A game that comes bundled with the Wii Wheel, which also is the prefeffed control method, when all the guy complained about was using the Wii Remote as a controller.
Other than that, Twesterm pretty much said what i was about to say.

@KylieDog: Yeah, you have to move the cursor outside the screen.
I haven't really understood what's the problem people have with it, since it's pretty much the same as you'd do in a real life.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

There's no lock on, but it really doesn't matter. It was very easy to pick up and play without having to spend time getting used to it for me.

The valid complaint to be made against Onslaught is that it's PvE only multiplayer, but it's fun nonetheless and worth the very cheap price tag.
