With Final Fantasy XIII and Gran Turismo 5 being released in December in Japan (and GT5 also possibly being released worldwide then and not just in Japan) and Uncharted 2 and Ratchet and Clank Future 2 in the West (and wild cards like Tales of Vesperia, Ninja Gaiden Sigma II (Ninja Gaiden Sigma came out in 2007), White Knight Chronicles Western release and Heavy Rain), and it is going to be extremely difficult for the 360 to top the PS3 worldwide this holiday season.

Hmm, It doesn't really depend on the games releases its all about price. Could Sony drop the price to $299? Probably. It depends on whether or not they are willing to. Its quite likely that a 25% price cut would net at least a 40% increase in sales over the long term.

leo-j is rite. The PS3 will drop to $300 this year. That will be enuff to crush the X360 in the second half of 2009.

^^ problem is (if) it happens I dont think it will until September and if so probably $50 at most (IMO). That may not be enough.

You seem to think that only Sony knows what they are going to do come this holiday, but for some reason assume Microsoft is only making counter moves with comments that if they luck out and Sony only drops by $50. Both companies have lots of options and both companies are calling their own shots and have contingency plans based on what the other company does. 

One of the basic laws of economics is if you are unable to afford to lower the price to increase sales you add something that adds real value that doesn't raise your costs significantly.  Both companies could do better with some better bundles. I'd like to see a Killzone/MGS4 bundle (yes both games).  I would also like to see a Gears of War / Halo Wars bundle.

I wonder which company will be smart enough to have the Modern warfare 1 and 2 bundle.

I suspect that an arithmetic pattern is not right here. Are you predicting that a $100 PS3 would outsell a free 360, which came with $20 in the box?
