PS2 library + other older consoles, even arcade machines + PC games + even wii games now(!) = PC library(Talk about BC. :D)
Anyway, I think Sony shouldn't focus too much on PS2, because thats like screwing ppl who have bought their newest system.
There's one thing Sony needs to do to even be able to have a chance at coming close to the Wii - and that is advertise. Yep, Sony's weak point, especially here in the UK.
If Sony made bundles like Singstar and eyetoy, then advertised on TV a lot then yeah, they have a chance. But a price drop is not enough alone, casual gamers need to hear about these products, sony cant expect them to just know already. Most casual gamers wont have even heard that the PS2 had a price cut. This is what they need to do:
PS2 from $99
Then show off buzz, singstar, eyetoy
But they wont, so no point. Sony needs to read this
well, almost everyone has a Ps2, there's no way the Ps2 can lower Wii sales
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
The PS2 does have a larger and better library than the Wii (as of now.) However, for the market that sony is chasing with the $99 PS2, only the games found on the shelves of Walmart, Best Buy, Toys R' Us will matter. (This market will not go to e-Bay to bid for the old games.) In that case, Wii's active library is indeed better than PS2's active library.
How is low price PS2 going to affect Wii sales? They can dream thats all, Cheap 360 did not affect Wii sales, and surely PS2 wont. Some fans should really stop developing such masterplans...

I was at Walmart last week. They redid the section. Previously it was isle, PS3, then 360, then Wii. Last time it was Wii, DS, 360, and then PS3, PS2 and PSP.
Plus Wii was expanded from 2 cases to 3, along with 2 cases for DS. 360 had 2 cases, PS3 one case, PS2 one case, and PSP 1 case. There was also another case for discount games that was 80% PS2 but also had some XBOX games.
So, if you look in the store that only sells new games, Wii library is > PS2 library.
If you look at my shelf, Wii library is > PS2 library and I had the PS2 a lot longer than the Wii... over the last 4 years I bought about 10 games for every PS2 game I bought during the same time period.

Wii is barely more powerful. The PS2 has a better library than all others. How will it hurt the HD conosles? The PS2 is more similar to the Wii than to the PS3/360 |
The Wii is killinng the PS3 and 360 in terms of sales, so by comparing the PS2 to the Wii, you prove his point. ;)
I'm not so sure whether it will have effect on Wii sales. Considering PS2 has been considerably cheaper ever since Wii launch. Of course, there's still plenty of people that don't own one.
@Puffy: Considering Wii does have two DDR games (first looking to be 3rd best selling game in the franchise), i don't think it should be read for PS2, but not Wii. Maybe if you'd replace it with Gran Turismo.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

You're insane. I love my Wii, but dear lord...
