What's really dumb is your friend is ignoring the original Xbox, which also had online gaming. That was kind of it's thing.

The SNES and Genesis had online gaming way before the 360 came out anyway.

 I don't think that counts. You couldn't use the Sega Channel to play games with other people, which is really what online gaming is. If Sega Channel counts then Satellaview also counts and is first.

I never said it was the first though

I did suspect the Genesis may have had online before but have never read anything on it, the expansion ports on the genesis were some excellent forward thinking by Sega.

In fairness to Leo, his friend was more wrong.

I guess you can't count the Famicom since it only let you go online and watch stocks, get news, and check weather. So I guess that it would be Genesis/SNES since they actually offered ability to play games.

Right, I was a bit confused. The Xband network was what the Genesis used for multiplayer online gaming. But in any case, it seems I was wrong since other services preceded it.
