OMFG! The price drop was an april fools joke, it doesnt even come from a releiable source! it comes from some guys blog! OMG they want shooting they really do!

It will be a matter of time before all these consoles are discontinued. 2012 will probably be the beginning of the 8th generation. I don't believe PS3 will last ten years. Its a stupid idea if they try to keep it in production for that long.

PS2 is still kept alive and it helped a lot and still helps a little bit Sony finances, so I don't see the stupidity of the idea.
Latest consoles most of the times are simply too expensive for most pockets for at least two years, having a cheap previous gen model on sale, if people still buy it, isn't stupid by any means.
As you see, there's only an "IF" between goodness or inutility of the idea, so Sony will have simply to see if then it will still be able to sell it and profit from it.
