This "news" is from 2007, colour of hardware prototype submitted to FCC is irrelevant and has no bearing on what colour the US retail version will be. 40Gb was only ever released in black in US and has long since been discontinued.

Ok I see that they sell the white ones as 80 GB in Japan, but wasn't this story ran last year and then nothing ever turned out from it?

Well it looks like they are running an old story then. I like the last paragraph in the story
- "NPD data released last week revealed that Sony sold 798,000 PS3 units in December 2007, the strongest month for sales in the region."
So they are quoting NPD figures that are from Dec of 07 and they came out last week? Is NPD really that slow at releasing data?
