Forums - Sales - The number of 1 million sales in Japan this generation is pathetic

Japan also has 1/4 of the population of North America and like 1/5 of Europe. Why does this suprise you??

dissidia, all the FF13 including agito and versus have a chance.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHQ!!

Total Championships: Nintendo - 4, Sony - 2, Atari - 1, Microsoft - 0, Sega - 0

By Vgchartz there is already 28 millions seller on DS in Japan, including 4 that sold more than 5 millions. PS2 only have 21 and 2 that are over 3 millions and the GC had 1. If you add the 3 millions seller of the PSP that make it 31 vs 22, a clear win for this generation

The situation is terrible for 3rd parties. All 8 Wii million sellers are from Nintendo. 23 out of 28 DS million sellers are from Nintendo.

A lot of franchises that were million sellers in Japan 2 last generations are no more: Dynasty Warriors, Tekken, Resident Evil, Onimusha, Pro Evo, SaGa, Samurai Warriors. Sony's 1st party franchises have lost their power also (especially Everybody Golf)

Only Nintendo, Square-Enix and Monster Hunter remain strong.

- 25 DS million sellers
- 2 PSP million sellers

- 4 GBA million sellers

Japan is going much more handheld-focused. That doesn't mean that the number of million sellers is lacking..

i counted three psp million sellers in japan

Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd G Capcom 3.02 0.00 0.00 3.02
Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd Capcom 1.76 0.33 0.27 2.36
Monster Hunter Freedom Capcom 1.03 0.22 0.16 1.41

Monster Hunter is like their equivalent of Halo.

Well, there was some article that traditional consoles won't sell much in japan anymore and handhelds will be the future(B_E_L_I_E_V_E). That would make console business a bit different and would hurt quite badly Sony and some Nintendo too on traditional consoles market.

I guess if i spent 50% of my free time riding trains i'd play my DS/PSP more than my consoles as well.
