A bullet of ice that is, and weighing in at a hefty 280 kilos, and estimated to have traveled at over 200 kilometers per hour. A cryometeor fell out of the sky over Nagasaki prefecture today in Japan. Smashing into a manufacturing plant owned by Toshiba. Going through a roof, a second story floor, and smashing into a industrial clean room before its path of destruction was halted by a concrete floor. Which it self suffered a six inch deep crater. Of note is the fact that this is the same plant Sony sold to Toshiba for over eight hundred million dollars last year. A plant responsible for the production of both Cell, and RSX chipsets.
Initial estimates for costs are being estimated at as much as thirty million dollars in lost productivity, repair, and cleanup. Further more Toshiba is going to eat all the losses, because they have opted to not have global warming insurance on their facilities.
For those that are ignorant Cryometeors are believed to be a byproduct of global warming. They form in the upper atmosphere, and obviously can reach massive sizes. They also do not form in the presence of weather systems often falling out of blue skies.
I rarely visit this site anymore, but I thought you guys would be interested in the sense that this will impact production of consoles, and perhaps delay price cutting initiatives. I thought it was interesting that global warming could very well decide the console wars.
