Forums - Sony - Playstation 2 Games You Need To Get Part 1 - RPGs

For Shadow Hearts I'd say the first part and then Covenant. From The New World is by no measure a must play, though it can be enjoyable. It keeps an interesting cast and improves on the battle system, but fares far worse with its story and pacing.

The first two are more connected and hold their plot way better.

I hate the bad rep Tidus gets.

Yes, he starts out whiney and such, but he matures and grows as the game goes on...you know, that thing called character development?

Heck, in the very beginning of the game the voice-over of him telling the story sounds mature and talks in a more somber and deep voice, foreshadowing his maturation process.

p.s. FFXII is not terrible

its funny how people praise Cloud when he is alot worse than Tidus , and squall also . you are right, and i liked FFXII

I've played all on the list except odin sphere (I only played the beginning). I need to get another copy of nocturne. selling it was really stupid

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

I only played the first Xenosaga, and it isn't as sexy as the boxart puts it to be. You do get to see Shion in a bathing suit though. I recommend Nocture; best in the list, imo.

nocturne is too hardcore for many jRPG fans. I can forsee many controllers getting thrown at the TV. A hardcore fan would quickly see it's brilliance though.

Dark Cloud 2 is better then any of this

That's exactly what I tought when I read the article

Am I the only one who thought that the original was much better than Dark Cloud 2? I found it much more atmospheric and the simplicity spawned addiction. DC2 was weighed down by a lackluster story that kept getting thown in my face and those stupid battle machines...

OT, I agree with the whole list, though I haven't played Odin Sphere. FFX is weird for me, because I loved the gameplay, and thought the story was fairly cool, but I disliked most of the characters and I HATED the character designs.

LMAO @ "FFXII is terrible"

@ Mirson

I have every game on that list with the exception of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 (looking for those cheaper), and Tales of the Abyss (never cared for the Tales Series).

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

I think it has to do with the fact you actually hear Tidus talk.

But yeah, Squall was definitely one moody bastard, with his countless internal monologues saying how he feels, followed by him only actually say "sure/ok/yeah/whatever".  I actually have always really liked Squall, probably because the first two times I played/beat it was when I was 12 (when it first came out) then again when I was 15, so the "moodyness" fit with my being a teenager.

Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 Anyone????? PLEASE...

Other RPGs worth buying: Dark Coud 1 & 2, Rogue Galaxy, Disgaea, Megaman X: Command Mission, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Tales of the Abyss, Final Fantasy X-2 (yes i know i'm one of the few that actually liked this game, it helped that i played the J-version with a J-friend, it's a really different feeling than the US version)
