My whole argument against the death penalty is really short. I posted this in an abortion thread on Valentine's Day:

The death penalty costs way too much money. There are 2 ways to lower the costs: abolish the death penalty entirely, which will save tons of money (good) and never accidentally kill an innocent person again (very good), or allow for speedier executions with fewer appeals, which will save money (good), but leads to more accidental executions of the innocent (very bad).

So, if there was 100% certainty you wouldn't have a problem with it?

I still would. Personally I think that even evil bastards such as Hitler should not have been executed - the state should never have the right to take the life of one of its own citizens.

What if you could eliminate the accidental execution of the innocent?

(for example, in this case there is no way to dispute what he did)

ah yes, the naive supporter of the death penalty. I know you all too well

How about a compromise? They get life imprisonment, but we are allowed to take means to shorten their life.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

no

The OP did not change my mind, but then again I've always been for the death penalty.

I find it interesting that on the issues of the death penalty, and abortion there are some people who are for abortion and against the death penalty, and those who are against abortion but supports the death penalty (I am the latter). Just an interesting observation.

not really, i think murder is bad, but i dont consider abortion to be murder, so theres no problem there for me.

Just posting to show my support for death penalty

Should be common sense that anyone like this guy that decapitated his sister should have got a bullet in the middle of the eyes. This kind of people is better dead for the society

You people are watching to many movies if you think someone innocent can be framed for a crime and get death penalty, but still, i agree that one should only be sentenced to death penalty if caught on scene, like this guy.

And i can't possibly understand how to feed and shelter a human being for his entire life can be cheaper than buying a few bullets
