Forums - Microsoft - Would it be in the 360's best interest for MS to pull it out of Japan?

So by your logic SONY should pull out of the Americas considering they are getting pummeled there???

love how SONY fanboys love to jump on the 360 when its not selling well. It has been a huge accomplishment for 360 in Japan. From the last gen:
XBOX = 500 000
PS2= 23 000 000 + more
Thats a 1:46 ratio for every Xbox sold in comparison to the PS2

Now
X360 = 1 000 000
PS3 = 3 000 000
Thats a 1:3 ratio for ever X360 sold for ever PS3

You are calling that a failure. Then the PS3 must be a bigger failure in your eyes as well.

pretty much what I would have said ^^

Absolutely not.

If Microsoft pull out of Japan we will loose..

Lost Odyssey sequel
Blue Dragon sequel
No More Square Enix games like Star OCean
Less support from Jap developers means less games for the US/EU to play.

I wantmy Lost Odyssey 2 :/

      No, the PS3 has had several games that have sold over 1 million copies in the US.  How many games has the 360 had that have sold over 250,000 in Japan?

That's comparing oranges and apples. You can't sell more games than there are consoles. If you want to approach it, do it by % of games sold per system unit

 no, the best way to approach it is quantitatively.  If the Japanese really wanted them, then they would have bought more 360's and the games for it.  It doesn't matter what a certain percentage of the console's owners have decided to buy.

 Yeah, but they've made all the headway in Japan they're going to this gen.  They are heading back to under 5,000 units sold a week there for the rest of the gen and probably back to 1,500 a week once the FFs and Gran Turismo come out.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

Star Ocean 4 360 Square Made game 200,000 sales in Japan.
White Knight Chronicles Level 5 made game. middle of the road reviews in Famitsu. Sold 340,000 copies on PS3.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

This is pretty much a vague attack at the 360 due to all the games it's stolen from diehard PS3 fanboys.

Why should a console that's increased it's marketshare by 100%, and growing, pull out of a rather important market?

What this comes down to is that YOU want them to leave so the Playstation 3 can get more exclusives. Nothing more, nothing less. You couldn't care about the X360.

It's not like the PS3 has had any better attach rates than the 360 has in Japan. The X360's biggest game is just above 200,000. The PS3's biggest game is just above 600,000. That's the 3:1 ratio there.

Now, if you want to talk failure, lets talk the Playstation 2 vs. Playstation 3.

The PS3's top-selling game in America (GTAIV) has sold just under 2.4 million units, life to date. The X360's top-selling game (Halo 3) outsold that in it's first week. The 360 has 8 games that have sold more than the top PS3 game in America.

Now, with that kind of disparity....Why shouldn't the PS3 close up shop? The PS2 has 19 games that have sold better in America vs. the PS3. That's following the same logic of the X360 closing up shop in Japan argument.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Oh, I should also note that Microsoft attracting J-Devs to their console has had huge dividends in the West:

- Lost Planet (1.7m)
- Dead Rising (1.6m)
- Resident Evil 5 (1.2m)
- Soul Calibur IV (1.1m)
- Devil May Cry 4 (1.1m)
- Dead or Alive IV (1.0m)

All are Japanese-centric games over 1m on the 360. So investing in the market has had it's share of quality hits.

Interestingly enough, the X360 has had more million sellers from Japanese developers than the Playstation 3 has had (6 to 4, not including the PES series). I guess that whole 'sells better in Japan' thing is kinda moot in light of that, hunh?
