Forums - Sony - 17% of PS3 games have an 85 or higher review score

trend matters because it will show other things for example here is an imaginary data set

01/09 360 17% PS3 24%
02/09 360 18% PS3 22%
03/09 360 13% PS3 17%

this kind of data would have different implications.

Of course that data could be written as actual units:

01/09 360 57(85+) PS3 43(85+)
02/09 360 59 PS3 44
03/09 360 60 PS3 44

but then you have to do the percentages in your head, or at least, there is a second step to seeing how those percentages are changing.

It's all about what you are trying to prove. Say,.. ps3 85+ games were increasing in frequency whereas 360's was falling. You can always show this by showing the actual units but why make someone do the percentages in their head? It is stronger to show the result with as little extra steps as possible.

For your technology!

Bolded the word trying, because in the end you can't actually prove anything with percentages like this, only spin numbers.  I agree with Kowenicki wholeheartedly - just because a game was released a year ago does not make it an unplayable antique that has no business being compared to current releases.

Great. Doesn't mean much though

4 ≈ One

Well lets see, according to metacritic:

N64:

33.7% of games are >85

PS1:

23.4% of games are >85

PS2:

9.40% of games are >85

What does this say? It means this statistic is worthless.

^ thats the thing sony its a powerhouse publisher.

microsoft isn't.

actually neither a hardware company completely but they are there fighting.

Nintendo is a power house publisher. Microsoft has published very successful games. Sony is somewhere below that.

Sony 1st/2nd party IPs propping up that score, no doubt.

Good job, Sony.

The 360 had a lot of high-scoring games when it had no competition from the Wii or PS3. CoD2, Perfect Dark, etc... do they still count as high today? Does the PS2 clean house on the 360, because it had so many more 85+ titles overall?

These kinds of numbers are so vague, so dependant on so many other factors, as to be spun in any direction, by anyone who wants to spin them.

Yeah, games under 85 just suck, i would never play one of them.

the 360 has more games than the ps3...u are only countering ur own point.
xbox 360 wins

I didn't realize what your point was and apparently I'm still confused.
I'm not realy sure why you are saying the numbers don't matter.

I'm saying they don't show anything special.
They obviously show a percentage of games and generally with percentages, they are used to track changes, because it's easier than listing the actual numbers.
For example:
VGChartz listed weekly and listed lifetime are the same thing. It's easier to track the changes in the weekly view, but easier to see the total numbers in the lifetime view.
It all depends what you want to show.

17% out of the available 50 games out there on the ps3? :p nah that was too low of a blow.

Quality > quantity
