Forums - Gaming - Wii to Lose Market Share to $99 PS2, says Sony.

While it should make the PS2 an easy impulse buy, particularly with all the heavily discounted software available, I really don't see this as taking a significant share of Wii sales away because even at $250, the Wii is still a planned purchase rather than an impulse buy.

I'd say the only Wiis that were bought on impulse were those grabbed off the shelves by those with the idea in mind of flipping them on Ebay for a quick profit. Now that demand is being met (I can personally buy a Wii on any given day currently), hopefully the only people buying them are either gifting them, or planning on using them.

And of course, as it's already been mentioned, as a planned purchase, when people buy a Wii, it's because they want a Wii based on word of mouth, or a sampling of Wii Sports or Wii Fit. You're not going to buy something else just because it's cheaper.

possibility, we'll soon see how this pans out.

The Wii is the next generation console after the Gamecube.

Sony is thinking of the Gamecube. The Wii is a different approach at a generational shift, just because it's not exactly like what they've done doesn't mean it is PS2 generation.

The Wii may not be that much more powerful in terms of specs, but it is next generation. Or new generation, or whatever you wanna call it. It's just not the same as Gamecube, at all. Both in terms of social paradigm and actual proposal.
