@ Garnett...
Find out the Exclusive game numbers?

OT:
Pricecut = Sales...
Just wait till PS3 drops $100 in the states, the sales should then be either equal to the 360 or in favour of PS3. Its the US where Sony need to make their biggest move imo... the 360 dominates it there atm.

Even when it was doing crappy it still did better than the PS3 till MGS4 spurred sales...  Microsoft could easily match a 50 dollar price cut... a hunder dollar price cut isn't feesable for Sony this year.  I expect that around Sept or so Sony will drop the price 50 bucks.  Depending on it's sales leading into the holidays Microsoft may also drop it's price... they have the new chipset scheduled to come out this year if I'm not mistaken... and if Microsoft does a 360thin it may be game over in the US.

No it did not.

The PS3 consistently edged out the 360 up to the price cut, and MGS4 was only a spike.

@ppl saying that sony will never do a price cut on ps3 "EVER"

Care to bet your life on this statement????

And the 360 crosses the line
Gratz

This time last year when PS3 posted those numbers people said "It is the year of the PS3".

So does that make this "The year of the 360"?

;)

hang on.... japan isnt in yet.... steady.

its currently 522,800 more so far in 2009, japan will reduce that.

Don't think the PS3 will have sold the 24k needed to keep the gap under 500k. Fam has it at 19k and Media has it at 21k. VGC would have to increase PS3 sales more then what those places have said and lower the 360 numbers more then the 4.8k in media and the 3.6 on Fam. Plus the PS3 sold 24k last week and 28k the week before, and 40k the week before that.

Meaning PS3 sales are/have declined week by week. To keep the same number or increase on that number is unlikely.

When the ps3 gets its price cut It will be like it was in 2008 or maybe the gap will be more!!!!

why will the 360 outsell it by more if the ps3 gets a price cut?

no the ps3 will outsell it!!!!in 2008 the price diff between 360 n pss3 was more competitive....so when the ps3 gets its price cut it will outsell the 360!!!

ha ha, when sony doing price cut, MS just do the same, it is easier for MS to do the cut, sony start with high promises, high cost design, bad firmware design, no tools etc

unless :
sony try to replace the blu - ray with dvd (x), it is impossible

sony try to remove wifi (x), it is impossible

sony try to reduce the cost of cell (x) impossible, it is more costly to produce than xbox 360 3 core PPU

sony try to remove the hdd (x), it is impossible they don't have mechanism on O/S or firmware to do that, they need HDD to perform what they offer, like linux or browser, Xbox already focus what is important, it is about gaming, no hdd then it is OK.

sony try to added wht make xbl good, i bet after 4 year, they keep updating firmware, but it is just too complex, they want to add featuers , but at the same time they want to reduce memory footprint, so just like home, they just keep mention new features, but nothing is happen actually, and actually new error keep surfaces

and so on

MS really turned it around, although if the ps3 really is getting a cut, we could see another great turnaround

Although if MS responds with a price cut of their own, we would see things turned back around.

Not all price cuts are born equal, there's a law of diminishing returns in action.

A price cut from $400 to $300 is more valuable - in sales returns - than one from $300 to $200. And under $200 you will not gain much sales at all because you're in the "comfort zone" already for what the public percieves at this point as the value of a console.

Actually, the above is incorrect.  It is quite possible that 199 to 149 could have as big or bigger impact than 279 to 199.  Even 199 to 179 may have as big an impact.  I am not that sure how much an impact 400 to 300 will have.  It will obviously have a huge impact the first month or so, but 300 is still too much for the price sensitive customer to pay.

Diminishing returns will come into play.  However the point at which that happens depends on the inflection point in the price sensitivity demands curve.
