Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy XIII aparently to use 100% of PS3's power

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has let slip that the hotly anticipated RPG will utilize 'around 100 percent' of the PlayStation 3’s technical prowess when the game finally touches down in Japan later this year.

Speaking to Japanese publication Dengeki PS3, Kitase-san observed that the same case applied to Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X, which pushed the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 to its limits, respectively.

“I think around 50% for the demo version. For the final product (just before it's released), I think it will use around 100% of its powers. It is the same situation with FFVII and FFX where we fully utilized the powers of the PS1 and PS2,” he said.

Regarding the presence of Blu-ray as a storage medium for the PS3 version, Kitase added: “If you are talking about using a single or dual layer disc, there isn't really a problem with storage space. However, the PS3 also has a hard drive. Depends on which one you are talking about, but there's still some work to be done on the memory side of things.”

Final Fantasy XIII will be released in western territories in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

another game that...

You can never really say that it's the limit since optimisation is bound to happen :p

Thats terrible, only exclusives can use XXX% of the PS3's power. Otherwise it makes messy comparisons possible and baby NJ5 would cry.

Tease.

yeah i dont think they use 100%...this would be too much work to import this to the xbox...i think they will use 100% on Versus XIII!

Because FF7 used 100% of the first PS ? Excuse me, but it was a real average game technically. Otherwise, FF9 used 200 % ?? Same with FF10, it is inferior to FF12 technically (less than tthe contrast between 7 and 9 of course)

I'm guessing if you actually used 100% of the PS3's power the thing wouldn't run.

Count me a sceptic but I think this is bragging about doing something thats essentially impossible to actually do.

uses 100% of the PS3's technical prowess?
So FFXIII will fold@home, use the web browser, simulaneously output all resolutions and audio codecs, use the photo gallery, play a DVD and a ps2 game(if you're lucky enough to have B/C), arrange your music and video playlists, start in Home and fill up your USB ports?

I call BS on this one.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

I never believe the game developers when they make ridiculous claims like this with almost every game they make.

If FFVII used 100% of PS1's power I wonder how much FFVIII and FFIX used?! O.o

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

They probably used the same power but they used it better XD

I guess I could probably write a program that used up almost all of the PS3's computing power, it just wouldn't do anything useful.

Using 100% power of platform isn´t that hard. Even I would be able to write code, that use 100% power of my PC. Of course, what is hard, is make something useful and effective.
