Forums - Gaming - Is there a JRPG that allow you to create your own character, like in WRPGs?

After jrpgs went 3D, I've had a hard time immersing myself into the new 3D Manga/Anime-ish protagonists. When I play Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion etc, I always create a character that I deem suitable for the 'game's mood' and the ingame 'environment'.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who want to be able to do that in a jrpg, so if you know about such a game, then please inform us all. I wanna play 'flexible' jrpgs.

Chrono Trigger & Secret of Mana 4 Ever :D

Edit:

I'm thinking of 'Custom Face Creation' etc.

White Knight Story allows you to create a character which silently follows the main hero throughout the whole game and plays no role in the story. Dragon Quest IX(DS) and Demon's Soul(PS3) I think allow you to create your hero also.

Valhalla knights lets you choose between 5 races and 4 classes...is that what you meant?

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

I was thinking of Custom Face Creation etc.

JRPs usually have CG cutscenes or anime cutscenes so creating your own character and then having someone else show up in the cutscense wouldn't feel that good.

WKC and Demons Souls has custom face creation. Those are the only current gen games that have a face creation similar to Oblivion.

WKC doesnt stop at the face as you can customise the body as well. While Demons Souls is only customising the face.

Great! Oniichan

I'm reading about it right now.

Why won't japanese developers cater more to us western gamers. JRPGs have a huge potential!

If your planning on getting Demons Souls then buy the Asia version as it has full english support. Japanese version has only english speech.

Its a game that caters to the western world as its very much like Kings Field. Its also quite a hard game to finish (well until you figure out the bosses attack patterns). It also has online play which is a big part of beating most bosses faster.

OK thanks ^-^
