Is there a JRPG that allow you to create your own character, like in WRPGs?

White Knight Story allows you to create a character which silently follows the main hero throughout the whole game and plays no role in the story. Dragon Quest IX(DS) and Demon's Soul(PS3) I think allow you to create your hero also.
