Haven't played MGS4 but SMG was amazing. Maybe the most beautiful title of this generation along with some of the most unique and creative gameplay and level design. Was really quite refreshing for a platformer along with enough evolution of what was there to really give you an old school Mario platformer. Not to mention one of the most beautiful soundtracks. It's hard to top that but if anyone could make a game to pass that, Kojima would be the only other one to receive a bet from me.

SMG or MGS.... tough call, I will give the edge on super mario galaxy if just for the ability to fly with the black outfit, i loved just flying and flying around.

mgs to me has always been the idiots splinter cell, and galaxy while great, is definetly not a game i see on my shelf and think 'well thats the best game ive played in years'

I have not played Metal gear solid 4 so I wont comment. I do own mario galaxy and I beat it with all but 2 stars. I found mario galaxy lacking a little though I did not have as much fun as I thought I was going too. But the game was still a blast.

MGS4, cant say Im not biased, both are extremely good games, so I cant say anyone is wrong unless they start saying one of those is bad. So I would pick mgs4 just because I love it.

I would have voted for MGS4 if the game play was longer and the cut scenes made sense, I know the full story of MGS very well but as I was watching a lot of the cut scenes especially towards the end, I'm like, well I don't wanna spoil it so I'm just going to ask a simple question, why in the hell were they using swords instead of pewpewing with bullets and get it over with!?!?!?! That aspect of MGS4 was awful where since they want to get you on the emotional side, they lost all sense of reality while trying to make you believe into a conspiracy that's so far fetched that you'd just go "wtf?" if you had a pretty well working brain. The final fight was of course, very epic, but I seriously liked Kojima's other works better than this one in particular.

SMG is just a good game with a ton of replay value and it leaves the story telling in your hands, if you don't want to know the back story, don't bother read it, if you want to, go ahead and find out and it doesn't take very long to go through, it's a true video game in essence and that's why it's so good. Call me old school, but I don't even care about stories that much unless it's a RPG game because I started gaming when nobody needed stories and it was all about fun, and SMG is damn fun, so I'm going with Galaxy.

edit: Beauty and the Beast Corp is hhhaaaaawwwwtttttt though!

No explanation is needed. Super Mario Galaxy is tied with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time as the best video game ever created.


MGS4 shouldn't even be thought of when thinking about SMG.

I liked Galaxy but you really believe that?  Galaxy impressed you that much?  To me it was comparable (but worse than Mario 64).

MGs4 has great story, cutscenes and graphics, but the gameplay, the part that counts, doesn't really stand out.

I was already on the older side when I played 64, and I think Galaxy is a better game by quiet a margin, assuming you are good with the wiimote and running with your head facing the way that is down in your normal perception.

People, please, donot use the first 30min-2hours of the game as a judge since it's pretty much tutorial time until you get to the real thing, you should only judge if you've played both games to the end.
