Worldwide Sony is doing fine and probably doesn't need to do a price drop. However, they are sucking in America, which is the biggest market and the ones that all the developers and publishers mostly push for. Being so far behind in America is what is killing Sony, and unfortunatly, with the dollar as it is, it is probably the hardest territory to drop the price. Yet, if they don't drop soon, they risk losing crucial 3rd party support, at least in the American territory.

sony wants a price cut but they dont have the money to do it. simple as that

 Well, that's what everyone says...

But where did they get this from?

Who here has any real knowledge of Sony's situation...Sure they have their shareholders eoy reports to look at etc but so what?

Who here is a proper analyst and has any idea about it all?

for all we know, maybe Sony just don't want to drop the price right now because they want to make more money. The way people talk it's as if they would go bankrupt as a company if the price was reduced...

That may or may not be the case...

those greedy bastards

lol, it wasn't a crtisism. Good business is making money!

360 has sold a million more than it had by this time last year....

PS3 has sold less than it had by this time last year....

Just for clarification.

aww don't ruin OP's dream :(

i think they are doing fine. At the earliest it will be a $50 cut now and a $50 cut in Sept. However Sony must make a profit on the PS3 or they risk bankruptcy. They may take 3rd place but atleast they will still be around come next gen so in that sense i say no price drop now and maybe a $50 one in september.

Why is it when threads like these happen, no one simply links the OP or anyone else keep saying ""there doing fine."" comments to some actual stats.

LOSING PROFIT AND DOWN IN SALES IS NOT DOING FINE.

sony has squandered the ps2 lead and the ps3 is currently in last place and they also have never made a profit off the ps3.

microsoft is dumb for not paying warner bros 500 million or whatever they wanted to go hd-dvd exclusive. That would have been the end of the playstation as we know it.

However, sony opened their wallet and paid fox and warner half a billion dollars. Which could explain why sony can't afford to drop the price, buy exclusives or advertise

PS3 has also sold about half a million more than the 360 did by this time last year.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

microsoft didn't really have that much to do with HD DVD, they backed the technology and licensced it for the add on, but it was toshiba's baby.  Also, sony doesn't actually own blu ray either, it is owned and operated by the blu ray association which is a group of like 15 different companies.  Sony wasn't even the sole developer of the technology, it was a joint venture between 3 different companies...  So yeah, my point is that Microsoft wouldn't have been the one throwing out the money for hd exclusives... in fact they barely even backed the technology.   Microsoft even gets some of the royalties from blu-ray sales as one of the codecs used in blu-rays was developed by microsoft.

I agree with the OP
