They should release a PS3 without the Blu-ray drive, and the hard drive and the usb ports and the controller for $299. People will just look at the price and buy it only to realise later that they have to buy all that separately

I still don't see how people think that Sony can just drop the price. When you have a system that has lost you nearly 4 billion dollars, and is still loosing you money, after all the PS2/PSP/Software sales for the whole division, then a price drop is not possible. What PS3 needs is, software, services, and marketing. People spend thousands of dollars every day on useless furniture, jewlery, art, and more because that is soemthing they want. Sony needs to make it so people want a PS3, like the iPhone, or the Wii.

Sadley, I think this announcemnet will just end up being the PS2 price cut. A move which from my research will do little for Sony. They need the PS3 to be able to play PS2 games, and that is the bottom line. PS2 owners do not want to move to PS3 because its can't play their PS2 games. Plus they can go buy a PS2, and a Wii for les than a PS3, and the Wii is the new hot thing. If they were to bring back B/C I think many people would choose to pay the extra money to carry their library over instead of going to a competitors system. I find it stupid that Sony could have made such a big mistake, as they built the brand around software compatability across all Playstation platforms.
