I don't think FF12 nor KH are to blame for the slow demise of turn-based RPGs, but instead are a result of the this demise.
I don't like it, but I don't hate it either.

I blame Wii fit. :D lol jk
I blame companies who make jpop music videos call them RPG's and think they don't sell well because of their fighting system and not because they have a trash storyline with forgetable charecters with no depth.
I blame Diablo. :P
Seriously, I think it's a natural progression, not different from turn-based strategy games to RTS. Inevitably, there would be something that will resolve "turns" without having to wait for player input.
Personally, I prefer my strategy games and RPGs turn-based, but that's just me. No pretense that they are more "cerebral" than frantic real-time ones.
I think FFXII battle system is better than all other FF.

That is what is so great about Chrono Trigger (SNES). You could see the battle coming and avoid it, if you wished. After playing it, I could not bring myself to play Final Fantasy II (US) or III (US) -- because you have to slog through each area, fighing on the whim of the computer.
Unfortunately, neither this feature -- nor the turn-based timing monitors -- seem to have been used in later games.
Interestingly, Super Mario RPG and the Paper Mario games are basically turn-based RPGs and with action commnads where you can also avoid random battles.

I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |
It's all hype. This genre isn't dying, just like Japanese development isn't dying. The Western-games centric media is pretty fixed on these flaws.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
persona 4 says hi. Turn-based jRPGs are still alive
"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)
"WAR is a racket. It always has been.
It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
I guess beacuse many new gamers want mindless button smashing RPG's
It's no wonder I replay the old SNES/PS1/PS2 RPG's.
If this keeps up I will have nothing but Nintendo games to look forward to.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints
FF12 & KH are the result of consumer taste , blame consumer taste not the result of it.
