Forums - Nintendo - A Zelda prediction I earlier this year.. Backing up my thoughts

"Yes well that's one of those leap of faith predictions lol but if you would allow me to explain myself..

Firstly your standard console Zelda game takes 3 years to develop. I expect the next one to be a major shift in what Zelda has been up until now. It'll be more accessible much like Mario Kart Wii but the fact is it'll have many new ideas.

If you read my other thoughts, I also stated that I believe Nintendo likes to hold games back for strategic reasons. So even if it could be ready for the holidays this year, I don't think it'll be released as it seems to be a strong year and I think Nintendo will suprise us with other games.

A Four Swords Adventure game would take half the time to make with a much smaller team. Phantom Hourglass came out 6 months after Twilight Princess so both games were being developed at the same time which is what I think is happening right now.

So my prediction is: Nintendo will decide to hold Zelda off til next year by diverting resources to the portable game so that it gets finished this year and Zelda Wii doesn't."

Now that Spirit Tracks has been announced.. It seems my thoughts have been backed up and indeed Nintendo have been smart with their development resource distribution to prolong Zelda wii development to either have more time for ideas to be fleshed out or removed with ample time to not have major implications on the launch time frame.

Now how did I come to these conclusions and does this give any weight to my other thoughts?

Going by the above information we can make a few predictions about 2009..

2009

  • EAD2 - Wii Sports Resort
  • EAD2 - New Title (Possibly Star Fox)
  • EAD3 - New Title (My Guess: LoZ: Four Swords Adventure DS)
  • EAD4 - Pikmin 3
  • EAD4 - New Platformer (DS)
  • SPD PG 1 - WarioWare Project or 2D Metroid
  • SPD PG 2 - Puzzle Project
  • SPD PG 2 - Sin and Punishment 2
  • SPD PG 3 - Punch-Out!!
  • SPD PG 3 - Factor 5 Project (Kid Icarus/Star Fox/PilotWings)
  • SPD PG 3 - Monster Games Project (F-Zero Zii/Excite Truck 2)
  • SPD PG 3 - Endless Ocean 2
  • SPD PG 3 - Dynamic Slash
  • SPD PG 3 - Tact of Magic
  • SPD PG 3 - Cosmic Walker
  • SPD PG 3 - Line Attack Heroes
  • SPD PG 4 - Delivery Channel
  • Intelligent Systems - New Title (WarioWare)
  • Intelligent Systems - New Title (Fire Emblem Wii?)
  • NST - New Title (1080?)
  • Retro Studios - New Title (Have a feeling this'll slip to 2010)
  • AlphaDream - Mario & Luigi RPG 3
  • Ambrella - New Title
  • Camelot - New Play Control: Mario Power Tennis
  • Camelot - New Title (Mario Golf/Mario Tennis/Golden Sun)
  • Factor 5 - Kid Icarus/Star Fox/PilotWings
  • Genius Sonority - New Title (Original Title)
  • HAL Laboratory - Kirby: Legend of the Stars
  • Hudson Soft - Mario Party 9
  • Nd Cube - New Title?
  • Next Level Games - Punch-Out!!
  • Next Level Games - Jungle Speed
  • *RUMOUR* Silicon Knights - Eternal Darkness 2
  • Skip Ltd. - Art Style: SOMNIUM
  • Skip Ltd. - Art Style: PiCOPiCT
  • Skip Ltd. - Art Style: MANY NEW TITLES
  • Skip Ltd. - New Play Control: Chibi-Robo
  • Treasure - Sin and Punishment 2
I also believe that either EAD2 or EAD5 may have another Wii Series title in the works. The issues with this prediction are: EAD 2 will have their hands full with WSR and EAD5may have been disbanded after work on Wii Fit was complete to go back to their original positions (1/4 of EAD5 was part of EAD3 - The Zelda team)

I also believe that Animal Crossing: Let's go to the City was complete and ready to go as much as a year before it was launched and was strategically held back for the holidays of 2008.

Also of note is that Headstrong Games (developers of Batallion Wars 1 and 2) of Kuju Entertainment has finished developing House of the Dead: Overkill so they may release a new title in the next 1 - 2 years.

Anything you think I may have missed or anything you think may be wrong, let me know and I'll get it into order. Thanks

So what do you guys think?

> I also stated that I believe Nintendo likes to hold games back for strategic reasons.

And what would those reasons be exactly?

my mouth is literally watering... this month a year from now if I could have Wii Sports Resort, Star Fox Wii, Pikmin 3, Punch-Out!!, Sin and Punishment 2, Mario Party 9, and Zelda Wii announced I would be ecstatic...

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

You left Monolith off of your list. I also don't see Spawn Smasher on there.

If SK makes Eternal Darkness 2 it will be for PS3 and 360, not the Wii.

Your missing Excitebots

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I'm missing all those because this was an old list.. SK rumor was debunked also

As for why I think Nintendo likes to hold games back? If your console isn't keeping up with demand then it would be a smart idea to hold off on the blockbuster games until when the demand begins to slow, that's what we're seeing now for Japan, a lot of Japanese centric game announcements have been made in the last 6 months.

Oh and Project Sora will not have a game released this year, these are only teams that will release games this year.. Monolith Soft may also not have their RPG ready this year..
