This is old news but it seems that vg hasnt fixed the numbers. 

"Snake is quite the delicacy. The latest Metal Gear is now up to 4.5 million units sold, helping to drive Konami's bottom line more than 17%.

Japanese publisher Konami has issued its fiscal results for the nine-month period ended December 31, revealing a 17.3 percent jump in profits to 17.8 billion yen. Revenues climbed 5.1 percent to 234 billion yen. Operating income was also up, increasing 25.7 percent to 34.7 billion yen.

Konami's Digital Entertainment division, which houses its video game business, was the primary driver of sales and also saw the most growth, as revenues grew 10.6 percent to 134.4 billion yen. The publisher commented how it was pleased about the strength of the Metal Gear brand.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has now sold 4.5 million copies worldwide and has clearly been the top driver of sales for Konami. The company also noted that in November 2008, the online action game Metal Gear Onlinesurpassed 1 million accounts worldwide in roughly the first four months since launching in June '08. Pro Evolution Soccer was also a big contributor, especially in Europe. The game has sold 7.4 million units to date.

Interestingly, Konami's platform mix for fiscal 2009 has heavily favored Sony. 61 percent of all unit sales have been on Sony platforms (32 percent on PS3, 18 percent on PS2 and 11 percent on PSP). Wii accounted for just 14 percent, and DS 15 percent, which is somewhat surprising given the huge popularity of both Nintendo platforms.

For the fiscal year ending March 31, Konami is forecasting net sales of 307 billion yen, which would be up slightly from FY:08's total of 297.4 billion yen.

Gearbox you should know by now that VGChartz will not change numbers because they always insist they are correct and that the article is to retail, no matter how much evidence you have against them, they will not listen to reason.

I think 4.5 million figure was for Metal Gear and not just MGS4.

I nominate this subject as "topic created most times ever in VGC". Seriously this has been discussed to death, revived, discussed to death, revived (...) and discussed to death.

Please, don't argue this anymore, it's shipped and includes sales from other MGS games
