Ah, now that's a gem of a title IMHO.  Bugs scuppered it but patched and played as intended it was superb.  Good FPS with a great setting and a real good use of different mechanics.

I'd love to see more titles take its approach to a persistant world you operate in.  I understand Far Cry 2 is a bit like that so I must get around to it at some point.

left 4 dead is anything but generic. simple in premise but absolutely brilliant in execution. try that if you are tired of run-of-the-mill FPS games.

What makes Call of Duty generic? I'm assuming you mean Modern Warfare of course.

If you're bored of same weapon, same character fragfests try a class based FPS like Team Fortress 2.

I don't think I could ever go back to the same old basic deathmatch ever again.

The FPS genre grew stale to me back in the PS1 days (Goldeneye, Medal of Honor, and Quake II ruled). By the time I finished Time Splitters and Red Faction, I was bored silly. I still buy one from time to time, but now I'm into boring 3rd person shooters!!
