I really hope that all this fuss is not just over that!
| *~Onna76~* said: Anti Sony fans, shut up already, will ya? According to Joystiq: "Australian trade magazine Smarthouse reports that it's received word that Sony might be planning a "global announcement" on Tuesday, regarding the PS3. Kotaku states that it has also received word -- apparently from Sony itself -- that a big announcement is imminent, but the site speculates that it could be for a PS2 price drop -- which we received evidence of this evening. There's no more information to go on, at this stage, so the big reveal could be anything. A PS3 price cut has been on the cards for some time, but each Sony Computer Entertainment region sets its own price independantly, and we've never seen a simultaneous global price drop happen before. If there truly is a global announcement, it could be regarding almost anything, like a God of War III release date. That would be "global," right?" |
I really doubt that Sony would give Kotaku a tip. There has been a lot of speculation that Kotaku just plagarized this from Smarthouse. Kotaku has a history of shotty "journalism."
Thanks for the input, Jeff.
In reality, does anyone really care about the PS2 now? I remember 2 years ago, Asda (the UK's Walmart) did a £50 special (about $80 including Taxes at the time), although there was limited stock, they went quickly, but now here we are nearly 2 years later and Sony may be reducing the PS2 to $99.
I can remember the last time I actually saw a brand new PS2 for sale anywhere in the UK.
If it's gonna mean anything, there needs to be a very positive move by Sony to cut costs of the PS3 and PSP (in preparation for the next iteration). Seeing as the DSi is coming out next month and at quite a high pricepoint, a £99 PSP would be a god send IMHO for the UK. Also seeing as the chip sizes are coming down along with BR prices, we should be in line for a PS3 pricecut....yes they are losing money...but they will lose a hell of a lot more money if they don't sell units hence sell games and make royalties etc. So a £249 pack in the UK with 2 games and 1 BR would be good for the moment, with a cut to £199 in time for Xmas with no games.

The only reason why I don't think it's a price redux for the PS3 is because of what alot of people have said, generally they are "leaks" of the price drop from retail. A good example is the suspected PS2 price drop.
...Also too isn't this as announcement for the ENTIRE Sony Family, not just the PS3?
I do believe that some release dates for games will be announced, one of them being Gran Turismo...
The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!
...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?
