Forums - Nintendo - Anyone did lose VC games ?

Hi everyone,

One of the great features of the Wii is the ability to download older games via Virtual Console. But is it a safe thing to do ? I want to buy older games I previously owned but lost. So since I have a Wii, I could just download them which is easier and cheaper than to look for them on ebay or in small stores.

I thought that some of you already owns VC games and maybe you could tell me if it is safe to buy VC games. I read a little bit about it and I found that some people had lost their downloaded games when they got their Wii repaired, something I obviously don't want to happen to me. I want to keep my games forever . I guess that if my Wii does not break, it should be okay...

So :

-Did you guys have experienced problems with your VC games ?

-Is there a way to backup our files so we won't lose them ?

-Do you suggest me VC games or hard copies ?

heres a few pointers on vc (and wiiware) games.

vc games can be saved on an sd card, but they CANNOT be played on any other wii than yours.

if a game gets deleted/corrupted somehow, you can redownload it from the wii shop channel for free.

if your wii breaks down, and you have vc games on there, send it in to nintendo, but tell them that you have games on there that you want to save. that way, even if they have to send you a new wii, they will transfer the games for you.

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=47568

I had my Wii repaired, I lost all of my saved games unfortunately because they had to replace the hard drive. I was however able to redownload all of my VC and Wiiware games again through the Virtual Console at no charge (even go my internet channel back free, even though it costs points now because I got it back when it was free).

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

So I guess it is pretty safe since Nintendo's policy if you Wii breaks allow you to get back your downloaded games... I just hope they do not change their policy in a few years.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it.

First off, Nintendo makes pretty damn solid machines. I know many people with working NES and SNES machines. And many more with dead or dying PS2s.

Secondly, the only way you'd 'lose' a vc/wiiware game is if they had to replace your wii, and then as mentioned you let them know you have some vc/ww games and they'll make sure to transfer them to the new Wii for you. I can't see them ever charging for that.
